The Ruby Reserve

As you walk down the length of the Great Canal, you eventually come upon a cube-shaped stone building. The stone appears to be plain local granite. Along the walls are small, arrow-slit-like windows, showing that the building has three stories. At the base of the building and facing towards the canal street is a simple wooden door.

Purpose / Function

The Ruby Reserve is, first and foremost, a library. Books that have been collected from all over the northern empire have found their way to this place. Whether for the purposes of educating the populace or for providing important information for local authorities, the Ruby Reserve has contributed greatly to the overall culture of the city.   Perhaps more secretly, the Ruby Reserve is also dedicated to the training of local historians and other cultural preservers of the world. The library contains great tomes of old Schintian, Anotaashian or other pre-Gratic Empire knowledge, some of which includes forbidden knowledge relating to the structure of the cosmos. Recently, books from other worlds have begun to show up in this place, showing the peoples of Endaman that they are not alone in the universe.

Architecture

The interior architecture of the building helps distract from the establishment's one important secret; the large cache of historical knowledge. They have kept all of this in an inaccessible attic - or at least seemingly inaccessible from the ground level. A small ladder in the back of the library provides a way into this portion of the library.

History

The Ruby Reserve was created in the waning days of the old Schintian city-state. The imminent arrival of Empire forces meant that this former storehouse was used to hide old documents. Over the centuries, the documents have been supplemented by documents from other areas of the world.
