Valar the Librarian
The man sitting at the desk wears a simple cloth robe that seems to billow a little across the floor. He is of advanced age, and he doesn't seem to have a wide range of motion. His hair is greying, and a small amount of grey stubble covers the underside of his chin.
He is reading a book as you enter, but quickly replaces it on the shelf once he realizes that he has company. A tired voice comes from him, as he doesn't turn around when he says, "Welcome to the Ruby Reserve . Is there something you need knowledge about?"

General Physical Condition
Valar has weakened significantly in his old age, and he very rarely climbs the ladder to go see the rare books in the attic. He knows that he'll have to get a successor soon, as the maintenance of the Reserve is starting to weigh on him more and more.
Apparel & Accessories
He usually opts for a simple coloured robe, often the pale red of the Reserve but occasionally others. HE doesn't try to be flashy in any way, as much of the Reserve's money is directed towards books or towards keeping himself alive.

Personal history
Valar is a local, and he grew up working the canals as a fisherman. However, the previous head librarian of the Ruby Reserve noticed his natural curiosity and his love of local history and decided to make him his successor. From that day onward, Valar worked at the library, cleaning shelves and helping keep the secrets of the library hidden from the local government while also being paid by them.
Education
Valar was mostly taught, as the previous owner of the Ruby Reserve was the one to teach him how to read and how to take care of the rare texts in the library. Most of what he knows about local history he already knew from local tales and what little formal education he got as a child.

Valar is constantly curious. He is always searching for a way to supplement his learning, and he tackles mental problems with ease. He shies away from physical confrontations due to his old age and his generally weak frame.
