Palatirprofizlendy

Red for those who wish to die a warrior's death,
Black for those who've given their last breath;
Gold for those who fight for what is right,
Green for those who protect plants from blight;
Brown for those who welcome with an open arm,
Silver for those who protect mountain passes from harm;
Blue for those who delve into the mysterious tomes,
Purple for those who travel much too far from home.
— Mnemonic for the Eight Orders
In the ancient days of the Binian League, it was much easier to ensure that the priests of the Binian deities could travel freely across the land. But as the successors of High Richter Emerin's line watched their empire crumble into a dozen squabbling states, this became harder and harder. The solution: each nation would have its own orders of sworn servants of the Ashtegitèn.

Professional Provinces

Each nation was required by one of the last of the High Richters to ensure that each of the eight Palatirorningèn had land set aside for their own use. Many had their borders drawn in awkward places while others had choice areas of the nations they occupied. In any case, all but the Richterland of Vaibin obeyed this wish - and even then, the issue in that nation was space, so a "token land" system was created - leading to the ninety-six Palatirprofizlendy that dot the former Binian lands.

Holy or Power-hungry?

In name, the Palatirèn are supposed to have no vested interest in the temporal beyond their Profiz's border. However, as the nations grew and chose very different political destinies, their relationship with the Palatirprofizlendy developed. In Valent, for instance, they are monastics, divorced and exiled from the rest of the chaos surrounding them. In Galeo, they often clash with the official state religion, the Galvan Church of the Crossroads. For many of the central nations, they have become synonymous with political rivalry and partisan interests in their growing democracies.
