Monster Hunt

This event triggers after the completion of the quest Investigating the Wild Tribes whenever the party first returns to Hazegate.   A strong fog is lingering around the city of Hazegate, consuming the planes that lie beyond. Upon arriving in the city, the party will notice that the city is a lot busier than usual. The normally empty square next to the eastern gate is now filled with wagons, 6 in total. Additionally, Arcon's Hub is filled to its capacity by a bunch of mercs. After inquiring a bit, the players will learn that a mercenary group has strolled into town. These mercenaries, calling themselves the Onix Knights, have come to hunt down Tagus the Plague of the Plains. Their leader, Scorpio Bane, is speaking with Regus Strongarrow at the Hunting Brigade Quarters. The players may speak to Scorpio to join the hunt, which he has no problem with. Given that the Onyx knights are with 30 men, the party will receive a 6th of the total bounty if the expedition manages to defeat Tagus.   If players join the Onyx knights on their hunt, they will set out the following morning towards the Meydian Plains. The party will join the merc’s caravan that sets off into the deep fog. A few hours in, the caravan will get ambushed by Tagus, striking two of the six cards with his fire arrows, killing a significant portion of the mercs. The card with the players will be knocked over, causing the players to be disorientated for long enough for Tagus to continue his attack on the remaining cards. By the time the party enters combat, Tagus will use his terror roar attack. Most of the remaining mercs will be affected by its effects, leaving only Scorpio and two of his companions. Tagus will cut down Scorpion’s remaining two companions, afterwards, combat will start in earnest.   After defeating Tagus, the party can help out the wounded Onyx knights and return to Hazgate. They can claim their reward from Regus who will give the party their share of the bounty. Either Scorpio or another member of the Onyx knights will be there too, depending if Scorpio survived the hunt. The party may try to persuade Regus and the merc to increase their share of the bounty. This requires succeeding on a DC16 Charisma (Persuasion) check or something alike. The share they will receive will be 60gp + an additional 30gp if they surpassed the DC by at least 4.
