Mattanyor Canyons

The Mattanyor Canyons are a long series of valleys eroded through layers of rock over thousands of years by the rapids of the Augmer River. It is a harsh, barren place where very little vegetation grows, and the cliff ranges are sprawling extensions of the Garand's Ridge Mountains, much taller than the cliffs of the Hollow Valley. To venture into the Mattanyor Canyons are to leave any sort of verdant green behind and enter a realm of wind-blasted, craggy, stony outcrops and sheer cliff faces.   Here, immense slabs of rock jut upwards to jagged heights. At such heights the winds howl, swirling in all directions and bringing abrupt weather changes; the impossibly blue skies of high altitude can, in an instant, be replaced by blinding snow squalls, blizzards, and ice storms that can freeze even an Ogre solid in moments.   The Mattanyor canyons are one of the few places that Ogres call home. Here, ogre caves and ogre tribes are numerous. Stinking, ramshackle villages and huts of haphazardly cut timber and hide are built high above atop the cliffs and deep, filthy caves attract scavenging beasts of all kinds. It is through these beasts that groups of ogres and Green-skins find a common alliance. Worgs are commonplace here and in Daran Uum, and Green-skins will often teach ogres, as dimwitted as they are, to use them as hunting companions, and have done for centuries.   Ogres here will typically share living spaces with Green-skins, and Green-skins will often use the brutal strength of an ogre for their own raiding parties, or even small groups of ogres as shock troopers for small forces commanded by Hobgoblins.
