Dunmeril Settlement in The Known World | World Anvil

Dunmeril

Dunmeril can be described as 'quaint' to most travelers. A rural, but growing farming town, Dunmeril was established amidst the most fertile valley in the nation, now named the Elenwin Fields after the Halfling saint of fertility, agriculture, and healing. The streets wind and curve around the banks of the Middan River, a crystal-clear, freshwater stream that flows from the Dagmurn Highlands. Here, the climate is cool, but winters are not freezing, and the summers are warm, but not hot. Rainfall is fairly frequent, but snow is much rarer.   Dunmeril is a beautiful and fertile land, beloved by its mostly halfling inhabitants. The town possesses an extensive agricultural system, and recent advances in dwarven steam technology have enabled the myriad farmers in the town to begin the process of industrialization for the growing populace of Meyland. As such, Dunmeril has become Meyland's foremost breadbasket, producing and exporting fresh produce for the wider nation.   Dunmeril is also home to the Temple of Elenwin, located at the town's center. Many who worship her tend to be druids, hunters, and farmers.

Hags and Horrors

Recent events have seen a large increase of guards and soldiers in and around the Elenwin Vales to the north, west, and south of Dunmeril. Word has spread of the defeat of a coven of hags by a group lead by Haiden Shawn.   These hags were purportedly jealous of these fertile lands and sought to claim them for themselves. Local patrols tell of wendigos, and a monstrous wicker-like construct of bone, branches, and necrotic Magic, with the head like that of a bleached deer-skull. The locals took to calling it 'The Boneskinner', crafted by the coven to torment and terrorize farmers away from the fields.   With the hags slain and these terrors now vanquished, the local guardsmen patrol the vales with assistance from the Ironguard and a select few Black Hand mercenaries. However, locals still fear venturing beyond the treelines.
