McCloughhaven's Reach Settlement in The Kingdom of Banteave | World Anvil

McCloughhaven's Reach

Nestled within the Warblewise Woods, McCloughhaven's Reach is a small county on the border between the Barony of Farran and the Barony of Rhythavn. During The Tambar Rebellion , it became a rebel stronghold for the better part of a year before it was reclaimed by a Loyalist militia comprised of levies from House Ildrafn lead by Iseabail McCloughhaven .   Upon seizing the settlement previously known as Shona's Reach, Iseabail slew the rebellious Shona in single combat and hoisted an Ildrafn flag upon the palisade. The town was renamed McCloughhaven's Reach in honour of Iseabail's victory, and after the Rebellion crumbled, House Ildrafn officially granted the title of Countess to Iseabail, and her family became rulers of the county.   However, in the aftermath of the ill-fated rebellion, the Reach has become a point of contention between House Ildrafn and House Antyre ; the county was originally an Antyrian holding until Shona's betrayal, and the new McCloughhaven rulers have renamed it after themselves and remain sworn to Ildrafn. Losing access to a valuable community near The Treaty Hall is a blow to House Antyre, and the path the settlement wards through the Warblewise Forest is also a key connection to The Seaward Coast
.

Demographics

The Reach hosts many cultures, thanks to its proximity to The Treaty Hall . While the majority of folk here call themselves Antari, there is also a healthy presence of Banteavan and Dunefalli townfolk.

Government

The Count of McCloughhaven's Reach handles the day-to-day affairs of the settlement, supported by a council of landed commonfolk.

Defences

A rough palisade of wooden logs and a garrison of McCloughhaven loyalists keep order and defend the settlement.

Industry & Trade

Foraging, hunting, logging and trapping are the main industries that sustain the townfolk here. Itinerant workers can also find gainful employment guarding caravans that pass along the roads towards the Barony of Rhythavn or the Barony of Farran.

Natural Resources

The Warblewise Forest provides a near limitless source of timber, forage and game.
