Crooked Branch Village - 179.148
Located roughly 270 miles from Krakonia City , it takes just under twelve days for most medium-sized humanoids to travel on foot between the capital and Crooked Branch Village (Just under seventeen days for most small-sized humanoids). There is a maintained road connecting the two points, making travel straightforward and relatively safe. Alternatively, one can sail alongside the western coast of The Kingdom of Krakonia and down Little Rock River , which is a much more direct path of about 240 miles, potentially saving a lot of time, particularly if one sails at all hours of the day (Although one will have to pay a toll of 1gp per person or 10gp per vehicle, whichever is cheaper, for the privilege to use the river). There are also plans to add a teleportation circle within the village itself as part of the burgeoning Krakonia City Public Teleportation System (KCPTS), but those plans are currently on standby until The Mages Guild of Krakonia(MGK) raises the funds needed in order to justify its creation.
Crooked Branch Village is home to The Clan of the Crooked Branch , and as such, is a village of mostly Pterasits native to Requerm . It is located along the western edge of the sizeable rainforest in the southern reaches of the Kingdom, just the way Pterasits like it, with tons of thick foliage to protect themselves from the elements and feed the local ecosystem, particlarly the many sizeable insects the Pterasits consider a delicacy. The village boasts expertise in survivalism, their specialty being the ability to track Great Beasts and the tricky arcane energy they, and other dangerous entities, may leave behind throughout Requerm .
Crooked Branch Village has little to offer in the ways of tourist destinations, but it is a welcome reprieve nonetheless for weary travelers in the Kingdom of Krakonia, as the citizens there have vowed to aid Krakonian adventurers, soldiers, and travelers as part of their agreement with the Kingdom following the end of The Unification Wars . It also serves as a decent port for ships owned by explorers and merchants looking to save time while heading south from Krakonia City, although currently there isn't much known about the territory south of the village, other than Moonroot Castle , Turoh Village , and Rainbow Wing Den , only one of those locations being official territory of the Kingdom, the other two being simple villages with amicable relations to the Kingdom. Notably, despite its reputation as a friendly place that welcomes travelers, those that actually travel to the village often cite that it is quieter than one would expect, mostly because, when speaking to one another in their native tongue, Pterasits use their own, naturally high-pitched voices, that are notoriously difficult for outsiders to hear properly, especially the older ones. It's become a bit of a common saying amongs travelers that the mosquitos and cicadas in the village are louder than its people, which would be considered a joke if it wasn't 100% true.
The village is best known for its clan, its local government being associated almost directly with the dealings of the clan itself. The village mayor is Basil of the Crooked Branch, who also happens to be the leader of the Clan of the Crooked Branch. Citizens of the village have nearly unanimously decided that the business of the clan is, in fact, the business of the village itself, with a vast majority of them being official members of the clan anyway. The clan has agreed to assist the Kingdom when needed, an agreement that most citizens follow through with enthusiastically, using their expertise to help foreigners navigate the harsh wilds of Requerm, particularly within the biomes that Pterasits are most comfortable with.
As one may have surmised from those that hail from the area, Crooked Branch Village has a tradition involving the nomenclature of its youth. Those born into the village are often named after various plants that could, theoretically, branch off of the titular Crooked Branch. While it began mostly as berries that grow off of branches, this tradition has over the years expanded to include basically anything that could reasonably be considered a plant. Essentially, the surname of all those born in the village is "Of the Crooked Branch," with their first name being something that could be inferred to precede the surname, to various degrees of accuracy. This tradition is theoretically followed by other Pterasit tribes, although as of now, the Kingdom has yet to make contact with these other tribes, so there is little evidence other than from what the Pterasits themselves have told navigators and mappers.
