Thunderbirds Organization in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

Thunderbirds

When an ace pilot disappeared into the Great Dust Bowl with a company of west coast vertibirds, the Brotherhood of Steel took the loss hard. They may have simply marked them off as casualties, however several distress messages made it past the interference, luring countless more into the madness in the months following. With much of their equipment damaged, escape from the storm was impossible. To save lives, a call was made to cease any further communications and instead work towards a plan internally.

It was a stroke of luck that they ended up in the path of the Vault Crawler, perhaps luckier still that the council saw value in a partnership rather than just salvaging the crippled vertibirds. In exchange for acting as a protectorate force to the Crawler, they were given supplies and allowed occupation in the derelict landing pads near the center of the platform.

For the past three decades they have been rebuilding their strength. Any major threats to the Crawler are met with overwhelming air superiority and are quickly routed, earning them the nickname 'Thunderbirds'. Without a viable exit presenting itself in all this time, most have resigned themselves to the original search and destroy mission targeting remnants of the Master’s Army. Some keep hope alive however, even going as far as to support the Vault Crawler in their search for a ‘G.E.C.K.’, believing it to be the only way to quell the storm and return home.

Mission Statement

The Thunderbirds main concern is escaping the Great Dust Bowl. Any intel or leads on how to accomplish this will warrant a full deployment of forces, though only from reputable sources.

The protection of the Vault Crawler is considered priority one on a day-to-day basis. Duties consist of perimeter patrols, hanger security sweeps, and surrounding area inspections.

Claiming lost technology still is a core belief, however compromises were made with the Crawler to continue a relationship. Weapons technologies are considered Brotherhood jurisdiction, while just about anything else is sent to the mechanics working under the First Citizens Council no matter which faction actually turns it up.

Hunting remnants of the Master's Army was the original objective for traveling this far east. The Bastards are the closest thing they have to their old nemesis, but the Brotherhood lacks the strength to ensure a victory if they fought them head on. They settle for smaller bands of mutants and ghouls that have wandered too close to the Crawler instead, raining down from on high with superior firepower to 'cleanse the wasteland of abominations.'

Defensive Pact

Occupying the Crawler hangars, the Thunderbirds offer a swift aerial response to any serious threats in exchange for supplies.

Hostile

The original reason for the Thunderbirds being asked to join the Crawler, they send several missions a month to keep them in check and watch their movements.

Hostile

Mortal enemies, they will sometimes break ranks to engage one another but often end up in a stalemate.

Hostile

Although the Brotherhood is not yet aware the exact location of the Enclave stronghold, they have suspicions that one is in the area. The Enclave on the other hand have no trouble tracking the movements of the 'Thunderbirds'.
