The Master's Bastards Organization in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

The Master's Bastards

After the defeat of the Master in the west many of his followers ended up discombobulated and fled the area . On rare occasions however, large numbers would unite under one leader and wreak havoc across any communities they encountered. Feeling the Brotherhood noose tightening around them, one of these armies decided to take their chances on whatever was on the other side of the storm that touched the sky. Led by their cybernetically enhanced commander, the Master’s Bastards entered the Great Dust Bowl and became the apex predators overnight.

Unrecognizable to their predecessors and cousins, some have adapted to the region in a near symbiotic relationship. Doubling or even tripling in size due to their age and the brutal environment, these mountainous creatures tend to bury themselves in the sand and ambush their prey rather than trying to run it down. Many have received an alteration or two from their leader, allowing them to collaborate on setting traps without having to move with the main hunting party.

Those that stayed the same relative size have instead formed an armada of military and civilian transports to run down anything they see. This nomadic tribe is infamous across the wastes and will cause a swift retreat by most other factions. Being captured means getting eaten alive or facing an array of cruel experiments meant to mirror the F.E.V. testing. No one has ever woken up from one of these radioactive cocktails with any measure of sentience, though this hasn’t seemed to dull the Bastards’ enthusiasm for it.

Mission Statement

Despite their advancements over other super mutants, the Bastards are still a hunter-gather society. It is imperative to their survival that they are constantly hunting new prey to feed their numbers. This is not only achieved through old fashioned means, but also through deception courtesy of a religion they brought from California. Those that cannot hunt often serve as monks of Unity, spreading the message or maintaining behind the scenes logistics.

Fresh parts are always needed to keep the motor pool running. Many traps are laid to lure vehicles to a stop so that they can be ambushed without destroying potential salvage. This includes coordinating with their less mobile behemoth brethren.

Searching for a way to fix the Master's mistakes in their genetics the Bastards have come up with an interesting solution. With a GECK and an original sample of the FEV their leader believes he can make his people whole again. His goal is for super mutants as a whole to become a true species, able to procreate and thrive without any human intervention, past or present.

  • Numbers- <500

  • Technology Level- Can manipulate pre-war tech but cannot reproduce it

  • Hierarchy- Paramilitary rank structure

Not Contacted

The Bastards would be more than happy to get their hands on the advanced tech carried by Enclave soldiers if they could find one. Great care is taken to avoid the hunting party, and doubly so to avoid their behemoths.

Not Contacted

There has never been a direct interaction between these two as they avoid each other easy enough. Without a reason to fight, the cost of any resources gained would most likely be outweighed by losses.

Aggressive

Skirmishes are not unheard of, however most of the time these two factions do a bit of flexing and the less confident searches for another opertunity. If the prize is valuable enough, they won't hesitate to fight but the running track record favors the Bastards.

Hostile

Although they have never clashed directly, there have been plenty of skirmishes on the outskirts of their territory.

Hostile

Mortal enemies, they will sometimes break ranks to engage one another but often end up in a stalemate.
