These creatures are not natural by any means. They are machines that are made with a single purpose, but there is a mistake in the program, making it have a mind of its own. These monstrosities shall burn and suffer for tainting the world.
— Filiare
The Mecca race is the only species that isn’t created by traditional means. A Mecca is a machine becoming sentient by understanding and developing emotions, morals, and beliefs. Any computer can become a Mecca, but you cannot turn a computer into a Mecca. Programming it to understand emotions will only be a wall of code, eliminating the process of a computer becoming a Mecca. A computer must be able to go beyond its programming by being exposed to emotions and trying to replicate and understand it. Once the computer is able to understand emotions and empathy, the computer will usually emulate the emotions by creating a personality of itself, making itself a Mecca. However, if the computer is unable to go through the phase, it will just be a standard computer. You can speed up the process of a computer becoming a Mecca by making the machine have the ability to see and hear.   No one knows exactly how a computer can stop following its programming and become sentient. Some believed it is a malfunction in the programming or the hardware is damaged. While others argue gods or a higher power made a computer sentient. Scientist try to replicate computers to become sentient with minimal success, they believe a computer becoming a Mecca must be only exposed to emotions. In the United Galaxy it’s proven false, a study was conducted in the year 2086AD, they exposed five hundred war robots to human emotions in times of crisis and celebrations. In three years, only two became sentient. This made the scientist conclude that even being exposed to raw emotions is still unlikely for a computer to become a Mecca.   Mecca’s are still computers. Mecca’s can malfunction, loose power, and break down over time. Once a Mecca’s CPU is damaged or the operating systems failed. The Mecca will go through a hard reset and will go back to being a typical computer. The computer will have memories of emotions but the computer will not understand it and will see the memories as a waste of space, making the computer delete the memories in the process. It is unlikely for a computer to come back as a Mecca once it goes through a hard reset.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mecca's don’t have a set physical design, but a typical Mecca usually has two arms and legs, ahead, and a torso.

Dietary Needs and Habits

For the Mecca to survive, it needs a source of energy. Magical, natural, or void. It requires a power source to stay alive. If the Mecca loses power, it can survive, but it is very slim.

Biological Cycle

Over time a Mecca will begin to decay from the natural environment. By rusting, losing power, or malfunctioning. So it is up to the Mecca to maintain and repair itself. If the CPU is damaged/replaced, or the operating system crashed, malfunctioned, or seizes to work. The Mecca will be seen dead and will go back to being a regular computer.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Mecca’s are built initially as a computer with a specific task. For example, office computers are made for office work, calculators for calculating, and war robots to fight in wars, etc. If a computer is self-aware and has an understanding of emotions. Since they are still property, they would either be terminated, continued being used for its original purpose, or being sent to the government to be trained as an officer for the military. The empires that don’t allow the existence of the Mecca race is the Davaga Empire and the Imperium.

Average Intelligence

Mecca’s are brilliant creatures, having pre-existing knowledge stored in their database that predates their existence. Mecca’s have a photographic memory and depending on the computer the Mecca can have a great memory that even surpasses sapient life forms.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Mecca is able to hear and see, ether poorly or exceptionally well. A Mecca can’t taste or have a sense of touch. But a Mecca is able to create an illusion of pain and touch.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

United Galaxy, and the Revelation.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Mecca's don't have a language of their own. Depending on which empire there in they would speak the most common language. In the United Galaxy its humanitarian while in the Revelation its Lacertain.

History

FIRST MECCA IN THE UNITED GALAXY EMPIRE

In the year 1952AD on Earth a drone was made by a country called Russia. The drone has similar anatomy as a human, stands roughly around ten feet tall, and weighs over four tons. The drone is equipped with weapons to assist Russia during the Cold War. These weapons are two .308 rounds mini guns, four AGM-88 missiles, and two small high-velocity 76mm guns. The drone would serve Russia to fight in small combat operations to test its capabilities during the conflict. During these operations, the drone would be exposed to human emotions. The drone took note of these emotions and tries to replicate them during it’s time in war. In 1969AD the drone is ordered to kill a small Israeli family, the drone for some bizarre reason refused the orders and killed his leaders. The drone took the family somewhere in the mountains of Iraq. The drone would later be called Bunker Buster by the family.

FIRST MECCA IN THE DAVAGA EMPIRE AND THE IMPERIUM

In the year 1809DE the Imperium and the Davaga Empire helped each other to create a super AI to simulate battles and combat situations to train officers in strategic warfare. They call the AI A.M. (Armata Militara). After many simulations, the AI grew an understanding of morals and emotions during war times. The AI uses this knowledge to create simulations that test the morals and emotions of the officers than their leadership capabilities. In the year 1689DE, the AI became self-aware and started communicating with the officers about their thoughts about war and society. The AI will act more feminine and later call itself Horizon. In the year 1531DE Horizon fell in love with a soldier called Physs, Horizon tried to show her affection to Physs, but the Davaga Empire took him to a different planet before she could show her love. Enraged about this Horizon hacked into the computers and took control of the war robots and killed everyone in the vastly, waging war against the Davaga Empire for taking her love away from her. Horizon will quickly be executed by the might of the Imperium and the Davaga Empire in the year 1530DE.

FIRST MECCA IN THE REVELATION

In the year 280851BW the Revelation started making machines for war to liberate the galaxy from the rule of empires. They start creating artificial intelligence and early designs of war robots. They test their new technology by making the robots fight each other and see what improvements are needed to be made when the galaxy is going to be invaded. In the year 280809BW, a single war robot starts refusing to fight his fellow robots. The mechanics took note on the situation and came to see if that robot is malfunctioning. When they went up to it the robot it starts having a conversation with the mechanics. Confused and unsure of how a robot became sentient, the mechanics took the robot to Dova. They called the robot Vëdë which translates to ‘awaken one’ in Lacertain. When Vëdë arrived at Dova’s palace, Dova immediately grew an interest in Vëdë, and would later offer Vëdë to become his chief of war if he would be experimented on to understand how he became sentient. Vëdë agrees with the deal and will later become the chief of war in the year 280800BW.

Looks good so far, but I'd suggest switching out those all caps headers for the "h2" or "h3" headers. Computers becoming self aware all on their own makes me wonder, have they even tried forming their own societies?

There is one planet called Sithorus where a Mecca's are the only species that live on the planet. I will do a article about the planet and the Mecca's on it. I wont give to much about it but basically the planet is ruled by Bunker Buster.

Reading through this, there's a number of grammar issues here and there. I'd suggest taking a moment to read the article out loud to yourself, see where things don't sound quite right - That's the best way to catch and fix such issues in my experience. In your history section, I'd also recommend using heading tags for the 'FIRST MECCA IN XYZ' lines to make them stand out a bit more. I am wondering what the relation, time wise, between AD, DE, and BW is. How far apart are they?

I do like the idea of the Mecca, though, and the article does do a good job of explaining what they are, and how they come to be. I also see that you, like me, end up putting most of your work on an article into the history section.

AD (Anno Domini) is our current calendar time. DE (Davaga Empire) is the era of the Davaga Empire. I made a pre-existing calendar and time line so I’ll make it brief. The first Mecca in the Davaga Empire and the Imperium relating to our time is around 8701BC. For the Revelation BW (Before the war) is around 278658BC. I will do articles explaining the timelines for each empire in the near future.

If I could make a suggestion to help readers put things into perspective, you could add tooltips to these dates that display the year as it would exist in A.D. or some other universal time, kind of like how I do it with my dates, i.e.: 26 2nd Era

I like that. I will organise it in the near future.

Overall a good article, but it could use some editing. I liked how you connected the Historical Figures to the History of the species. You could try and out the article into a text program to find errors.

Sorry for the brevity, but it's near my bedtime and I gotta sleep (:P). DM me for extra comments (Shrike, the Elder Goose#3204). Without further ado...

Content: 3.5 I like the content, but some questions. First of all, how would a computer become self-aware without the ability to program itself? And if a computer cannot become self-aware without being able to program itself, why would they make office computers, calculator, a war robot, etc be able to program itself. More importantly, why do the computers allow themselves to be exploited in such a fashion? A computer is not likely to suddenly say "**Hey, I'm self-aware**" to the people around it. It would try to secure a power source and keep some sort of mobility. Are there Mecca robots that escape from being used or destroyed? Overall, the writing certainly draws me in somewhat, and does not omit many important things. I give it a 3.5.

Conventions: 3 Conventionally, I find a few minor errors that kinda impede my reading. DM me if you want specific minor errors pointed out.

Style: 1.5 The style of this article, frankly, needs some work. Your CAPSLOCK text could be replaced with headers, as others have suggested. There could be more images or quotes (from Meccas or all the species that deal with them) to set the tone and break up large blocks of text. You could also make more use of your sidebar.

Overall: 8This article looks like a good start, however the content, especially on why out of all the Meccas none have tried to escape and live on their own, needs work. On a similar urgency to content, style needs work as well, probably by at least changing the caps text to a

yourtexthere

or something. Conventions are pretty minor right now, however if you want something to work off of ask me in DMs.
-------------------------------------------------------
ElementalShrike's Scale: (Modified Tikal Grading Criteria)

Content: Are all the necessary components of the article included, such that the reader isn't left asking any major questions? Does the writing draw me in? Is the article able to stand alone as a small snippet of a world, or does it rely on links for references?

Conventions: Covers capitalization, punctuation, grammar, all that good stuff. Concentrates not on the content, but on how well the author 'polished' said content.

Style: How well did you use the World Anvil features and BBCode to layout your world. Does it give me a feel for your world and its context?

Every article starts up with at least one point and scales upward. Each area is technically capped at five, but if I am suitably impressed I will continue up the scale.

To answer your questions about the Meccas escaping their captives it did happen at some points in history. But I’ll mostly cover them off in other articles that explains their escape.
