Discovered Animals and Monsters

This document will be utilized to track the many animals or monsters that were discovered while wandering The Gates. Each creature added to the document will include the organs that were harvested and studied and what potential items might be crafted.

Bird of Paradise - Upon first arriving in The Gates, a gorgeous trio of tropical birds flew overhead. They flew from one side of the forest to the other, their impressive, colorful plumage a demonstration of the new and exciting world we had just arrived in. They've yet to be truly analyzed in detail, what with everything going on, but their habits should be observed at some point.   Tracks - Agave and Hysteria found the tracks of smaller, common looking animals in the woods nearby. Likely a nice meal at the very least, or something to study when time is more on our side.   Fjarverand - The first night here was interrupted by thick fog and incessant knocking disturbing the camp's sleep. Thankfully, the Field Guide was remembered and what was likely a devastating, nauseating encounter was avoided, substituted with a mere horrifying experience. Whether this is a spirit or some beast is unclear, at the very least it is not something that is really understood yet.

Frogs - There are many frogs in this forest, most seem to be rather mundane in nature, the frogs you'd find anywhere, but this bullfrog is pretty neat. He has been named Croak Chomsky and travels with us. Was able to capture several frogs during this initial venture including a gliding tree frog, a Darwin's Frog (named after the famous poet, Laran R Darwin) and a poison dart frog. One of the frogs captured was rather special though, nothing seen before, the most fitting name thought of was Glass-eyed Hissing Rainfrog. Cannot wait to find the myriad of uses that could be procured from these frogs.   Spiders - Having stopped at the stump where Croak Chomsky was located, there was evidence that spiders were in the area at some point. These spiders were ignored for the time being as a more pressing matter of locating water was being focussed on. Perhaps they will be investigated later, or maybe we'll happen upon them somewhere else.   Multi-Monkeys - In the pristine location where the stump and stuff was found, we also spotted two odd monkeys. They were both shot dead from the tree they rested in wherein we also discovered their rather strange number of limbs. Both were dissected and their meat used for stew that night. The rest of their pieces are still in need of analysis to see what uses they may provide. The meat seems capable of providing more deft movements, perhaps that will be passed onto us in some way with the stew. Further dissections on frogs had been far more easy, it is likely the meat benefited my own limb control.   Centipedes - The rotting tree trunk was investigated before nightly rituals and bedtime. Found a few creepy-crawlies there including a rather nice centipede. Deep red color on the outer edges of the carapace, trimmed with a black line that runs the entire length of the creature. The deep red color lightened up to a warm orange at the center. Its legs were all brown with black tips. Was about 4 inches long, an inch, inch and a half maybe, wide. Not as big as what was found in The Maze, but still a nice specimen for further research.   Glass-shelled Snail - Along with the aforementioned centipede, there was as snail with a glass shell attached to the rotting log of the felled tree. It was pretty big as far as snails go, 3 inches long, between 1 and 2 inches tall. The shell made a perfect, golden spiral and little specks of blue and black sparkles could be seen running the length of the spiral as well. Very gorgeous.

Candy Cane Angler Monkey - Hysteria grabbed onto a candy cane, turned out to be some stranger creature's lure. We all had to work together to get them down and ended up getting another monkey to study as well. It had a really big mouth full of pointy needle-like teeth that opened at its stomach, tendons reached out of its arms and chest that ran down to its candy cane lure. Likely would've eaten Hysteria, or tried to. Knocked it out, will need to study later.   Hot Cocoa Mug Teacup Peppermint Dragon - A cafe with no guests, no chairs, only tables and hot cocoa. Each mug had its own tiny dragon, and DAN ended up befriending one of them. They looked like long, dangerous peppermints.   Flying Reindeer - Saw one just before we entered the town, and then several more flying overhead while there. Have yet to interact with them.
Little Charcoal Squirrel - Saw on watch the afternoon after defeating Spirit of Christmas. Its fur was dark grey, like charcoal, and it had a shocking white stripe down its tail. It ate some meat that was thrown at it and scurried off into the woods. It has been named Darryl.   Adderfowl - Frode and Hysteria encountered this creature in the woods before tactically retreating to have it follow them back to camp. The adderhen lays delicious eggs, and an adderooster was also found so future generations can be raised. A bizarre hybrid of chicken and snake. The ones that have been captured had scales and feathers with different shades of red.   Vine-boar - Followed its tracks and incapacitated it with Hysteria. Was able to deliver killing blow and bring it back to camp. Lots of meat and seeds. Hysteria was interested in the vines, and the seeds will be used to grow a poisonous wall. Quince wants the seeds studied and an antidote found. The seeds seem to require the stomach acid of some unsuspecting creature to break free of their shell and grow. They then feed off the creature and control it, very parasitic and dangerous.
Bird of Paradise - Update - Found more of these while logging for the future wall around base. It turned into a bird and tried to fly away, captured it and gave it to DAN to study. Frode thinks it could be something to bring back to King.

Orchit - Strange looking rabbit, has flowers and vines growing from the edge of its ears. DAN thinks something will grow from the pods though, and after skinning and dissecting the meaty part Frode was eager to make some rabbit stock, bone stock, and use the meat for the meal that night. It was delicious... if new ones grow from ear flowers, maybe they can be raised quickly...like rabbits. More studies will be needed.   While stalking this creature, I did find a group of nests with some younger and older rabbits. The younger rabbits still had the flower stems growing from their eartips, but there were no flowers and far fewer leaf nubs along the length of them. Their heads were mostly bald with more plant matter visible on the ears, nose, around the eyes, and the back of the head.

More Frogs! Found more Frogs while out hunting. Western Chorus Frog and Some kind of Milk Frog were both rather mundane creatures, very nice to see though. Also found another unusual specimen. It had pearls tucked behind flaps where ears would be on another animal, its flesh was a very soft pink color with beaded ridges along its head and back giving it an almost wrinkled appearance. Will call it Oyster Frog.   Crystal-clawed Badgers - Found these while out hunting. It burrowed underground the first time it was spotted, need to be more sneaky.   Returned after working on the cabin a bit to see if it had returned. The same badger was out and about, digging through the rain and as it scratched at the ground its claws glowed with each swipe. It almost looked like it was looking for something. After it had strayed a bit further from the hole it sprung out of, I was able to widen the entrance and found a much larger Underground Tunnel down below.   The badger's tracks led to a burrow, several small caverns with badgers young and old. They appear to be social creatures.

Moving Rocks? Some rocks appeared near the northeast portion of the wall. They weren't there before, and when I went to check again they were gone... Some tracks, hoove prints. Easy to spot in the mud. Setting trap.

Big Snail - The rains bring out the snails, never seen before in desert... Really big snail, its shell was a sandy brown, with a blue and a red stripe going down from the center of the spiral. Very shiny, shell could be used for Namina's paints, could be used as building material, would take a lot of smashing though.   Mountain Goats - The trap was a success. Except there's no pile of rocks, just a goat, a rather large mountain goat with impressive horns...they look kinda weird. I'll need to study it, but, looking at the horns, I think this is the same pile of rocks.

Tunneling Pheasant - It popped out of the ground, at first it looked like any other pheasant just dirty, but after catching it it was revealed to be covered in rocks with only some feathers sticking out between cracks. Eating its meat seemed to cause rocks to grow on skin, felt more durable. The "wings" and legs were arranged differently than a normal pheasant, seemed designed to walk on all fours and dig, the face was still that of a pheasant though, along with the pattern from the rocks and feathers.   Tracks - Found tracks, something big. Paw prints are almost cat like, three legs on either side.

Muddy Creek Muckfish - Before leaving to go find stumps with Hysteria, did some more work around the base and found this fish in the creek. It looked like the rings were rotating really quickly to tunnel it through the ground like a drill. While dissecting I discovered the rings were floating on some fluid, separate from the rest of the fish. A series of muscles span the rings, incredible coordination. It made delicious meal with potatoes later that night.   Emerald-eyed Eels - Wrestled this out of the water, the teeth and bones are all made of emeralds along with the eyes. The eyes were still functional as they were moving and looking around while it was alive. Meat is being preserved for future recipes, and the teeth will be used to decorate the new gate in the farm once that's done.   Upright Bass - Hysteria plucked this out of the lake, it had two little human legs, very adorable and strange. They wiggled back and forth in the air for awhile before being mercy killed by Hysteria. After dissecting it, it has been revealed that these legs are controlled with sacks that fill with fluid to extend or empty to contract, unclear why a fish would need human legs that do this... is it a disguise? Can it walk on these?
Tracks - Followed tracks for a ways, they ended ubruptly. Can it fly? teleport? dig?   Mountain Goat - Observing it the past few days, it definitely can turn itself into gravel. It even eats rocks. It looks like it is capable of producing milk still like a regular goat, which will come in handy.

Refracted Stalker - Found tracks again. Was able to follow this time. Found a strange multi-legged cat, crystal skin, planning on making a cloak or armor for DAN to use. As I was butchering it the others found a kitten... think Frode is currently taking care of it.

Catoblepas - Old Woman had a weird beast at her Cottage, looked like something from a story book, long horrible neck, horns, its body was similar to a bison while the face was squished up and it seemed that its back was covered in moss and branches. If it was anything like the ones I've heard stories of then its stare might be lethal.

Ticks - Woke up in prison and it felt like I had aged a few years...bones ache, muscles are sore, joints... found ticks with weird gears in their jaws, ticking noise, they might have been draining the years from our bodies. I ate one, it seemed to reverse some of the effects though even after consuming all of the ticks there is still something off.   Zombies - Fought some big, very dangerous flowers. Zombies and other undead crawled from the ground, some of the zombies seemed to be sentient, and they were all in agony. Unusual, the ones in the desert were mindless and without pain, something is different about these.
