Mountain Goats

Mountain Goats are an animal that can be found in The Gates.   This species was first seen by Kaswink on Nurend 08, 308 though it was just a pile of rocks at the time. She first observed the goat, and was able to capture it, on Nurend 09, 308.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They mostly look very similar to material plane mountain goats, but their fur and skin is incredibly rough and has qualities of stone. Their horns are varying shades of grey and oddly segmented into almost random distances, directions and shapes. Upon closer inspection, the horns are actually cobbled together gravel.   While assuming their "goat form", other parts of their body that would normally be organic in some way are also made of stone including the hooves and teeth.   They can also reduce their body to gravel which is usually used to travel down mountains, but in a pinch it can also act as a clever disguise as Kaswink witnessed when she first saw it.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Kaswink has been able to observe the dietary needs of this creature and has confirmed that it does, indeed, eat rocks. Its teeth are able to move through solid minerals as though chewing on grass or some other soft food. The calorie content of rocks is rather dubious, but this goat seems to ignore most of the usual food that a goat would enjoy, instead preferring inorganic/abiotic matter.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Mountain Goats produce a milk which is considered a delicacy throughout much of The Gates due to the species usually only inhabiting the mountainous area of the North. Beyond their ability to produce milk not much is known of their usefulness, however, a creature that can chew rocks might come in handy for some sort of mining or construction purpose.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Mountain Goats are usually only ever seen in the mountains. That being said, Kaswink has happened upon one in Tympi's Forest, most unusual.
