Muckfish

Throughout The Gates one could find a variety of different, grimey lookin fish collectively and affectionately referred to as "Muckfish". They're often bottom dwelling fish that employ a plethora of different adaptations to escape predators, attack potential aggressors or prey, and to maneuver through the water or land at unexpected velocities.   Muddy Creek Muckfish - Similar in appearance to a fish of a similar name, monkfish, this happy little camper is instead found in shallow waters such as creeks (rather than the depths of the ocean) and is more capable of movement and having shape than the Voldaren Sea Monkfish. It was wrestled from the muck by Kaswink on Nurend 11, 308.   With the heavy rains and constant, more average, rains throughout the past week the creek has been flooding and nearby land has been rather muddy and prone to erosion. This mud and other filth like rotting plants, animal waste and so forth gets washed into the river due to this erosion and the creek becomes a fair bit more muddy than it normally would be.   Its large, sharptoothed mouth is rounded out to fit the more inflated frame, ring-like segments break up the main body and are each covered in small knife-like bones that are arranged in such a way as to suggest a drill as the body is widest at its midsection before tapering towards the tail and head. These rings that split up the body also are capable of moving independently of it as observed by Kaswink while dissecting it for the evening’s meal. With this in mind it likely moves through the mud by spinning these rings to remove the dirt and force it behind it. Due to the oddly shaped body it may be even able to move in either direction to escape predators if needed.   Its meat had a rather unoffensive flavor and scent compared to the shape the creature was in when found. When properly cooked by Frode it was quite buttery and practically melted in one's mouth.
