The Parapoptsi Organization in The Flying Flux | World Anvil

The Parapoptsi

Par-uh-pop-see

A highly exclusive cult supported by several high-society moguls which manipulates the political waters to distort underlying intentions. They're not very good at it, but they have a lot of fame and money that make up for their poor acting.

Structure

The Parapoptsi follow a typical hierarchical model, with an inconsiderate dictator set firmly on the backs of those with lesser titles. There are, of course, advisers and managers who run just about everything for their leader in a desperate scramble for the rarely given promotions, most of which end up being assigned to newbies with power.

Public Agenda

Their mission is to localize wealth and pit the poor people against each other. The former is meant to keep the order "according to Chazos's plan", which is based off some old religious dogma that claimed rich people had somehow won the creator's favor in a previous life. Naturally, this isn't even remotely true, but there are many who still believe it.

Assets

Money. Loads of money and ignorant followers carry the Pozzi through thick and thin. They were bought by Highland political and pop-culture figures who now use them to further their own personal goals. Naturally, this means they have enough money to do pretty much whatever they want, then support conspiracy theories that work in their favor.

Demography and Population

Surprisingly enough, the vast majority of low-ranking members were either "rescued" from the Lowland slums, or recruited from the Midlands. With monetary incentives and religious justification, it makes sense that hordes of unknowing civilians would rush towards this seemingly golden opportunity. However, their efforts will only reduce options for future generations and thoroughly integrate this organization into the system, even creating a societal dependency.

Territories

This organization has spread to the Higher, Middle, and Lower Lands, leaving only the untamed Middle and Outer Lands untouched. Some scattered hermits have fled to the less forgiving lands in search of developing an opinion free of propagation, but were quickly rejected from good society as lunatics.

Military

It would be lying to say their primary force was underhanded... so, to paint a more accurate picture, image a large group of adults who suddenly decide to become ninjas. Now, imagine those same adults are given instructions to do something underhanded along with an unlimited amount of resources. This would make up their main military force. The ones who are recognized as geniuses will usually the more specialized cases.

Religion

They hail as Chazonian extremists, but are shunned entirely by the church.

Agriculture & Industry

Many Lowland factories are packed with Parapoptsi workers, fulfilling mundane tasks under the illusion of reinforcing their military might. This was simple, since all the higher-ups had to do was reignite hidden suspicions and theories of an impending war, then claimed grunt work is "necessary" to prevail.

Mythology & Lore

There is a falsely perceived war against the mages, which originates from ancient times when many religious leaders would accuse them of sacrilegious behavior. Many believe that the application of magic is slowly destroying the world rather than simply exploiting it, which creates a natural tension between the groups.

    Rise of the Parapoptsi
    Founding

An extremist group stems from the church, one dedicated entirely to serving 'Chazos's will'. The church quickly abandons this group, condemning the radical measures taken in this pursuit and claiming the creator sees all living beings as equal. Of course, no want really wants to accept this, and the group rapidly consumed a large majority of the church's followers.

    Creation of the Mage Association
    Founding

The The Parapoptsi have grown incredibly popular, especially among the higher classes. With it, prejudices against most forms of experimental magic and--by extension--mages grew more prevalent in every-day society. To counteract these dangers, a group of affluent mages founded an organization that would offer resources and protection.
