Dichotomic War Military Conflict in The Flying Flux | World Anvil

Dichotomic War

In 1307 InE, the Lowlands is packed with flourishing farmland, and its inhabitants even beginning to manifest peaceful countries and towns. Just barely in their infant stages of growth, some of these settlements began trying to mediate and insinuate their influence into the other lands in hopes of acquiring a wide-spread treaty, which would unite Flux like never before. They appealed to the Midlands with supplies like medicines and Outland collectibles. However, their downfall came while trying to appeal to the Highland moguls, presenting their still-developing country as a profitable business partner because of its space, workers, and rich soil.
It was good business and nothing more. Peace inevitably leads to war, so cutting out the pointless garbage in the middle saved everyone time and money. Besides, the Lowlands don't have to worry about being attacked now that they're under our protection, so it's a win-win situation.

The Conflict

Prelude

During the Lowland's beginning of development, it strove to create the perfect transcontinental relationship the Flying Flux had ever seen. However, while naively attempting to convince the Highlands by appealing to greed, the infant continent unintentionally attracted an undesired attention to their abundant resources. A few idle threats from Highland moguls soon became an ultimatum, which expired without ever being fulfilled.

Deployment

The Lowlands were fewer in number, inferior in training, and financially disadvantaged when compared to their opponents, but there has never before (nor ever since) been a militia with more enthusiasm or well-deserved pride. This war, while terrifying, was meant to be their revolution.

Battlefield

The war took place on Lowland soil, but the Highlands pressured their Midland neighbors into granting them passage through Isthmus Net passages, so this gave little advantage to either side. Locals hid in fields and some legends say a radical mage successfully recruited ethereal Fluxers from the Lowland Forests, which were mere blades of grass before the war.

Conditions

Dark. The once sunny planes were blackened by a dark shadow that rose from the Inlands to block the near-parallel coin-sun. Such an event struck fear into those unfortunate enough to witness it, which led to a chaotic scramble that greatly benefited the Lowland militia.

The Engagement

The Dichotomic War devastated the Lowlands. Highland technologies had been incredibly advanced for the time, not to mention they were aided by the The Parapoptsi and was one of very few recorded incidents of Parabuzzi interference. Despite the militia's efforts, they were overwhelmed by wave after wave of well-armed soldiers with advanced combat training, which ultimately decided the six-year war's end.
Home after home was felled, until we fought from behind mountains of dead and dying. I saw a friend's comforting embrace; a young couple's final whisper. A childless parent wandered aimlessly through the chaos with a hollow expression, then disappeared behind a Highland blade. Yes, I ran, but I do not flee death.

Outcome

This devastation crippled the Lowland Fluxers and obliterated several large farms that provided food to the entire world. The shortage led to a starvation, which evolved into unavoidable debt, then to slavery.

Strength

Being a military force that represented Dikaria that was backed by Parapoptsi elites, it was fairly strong. This particular fighting force included about twelve thousand well-trained soldiers.

Casualties

Slim. About two or three sustained injuries, and only one died. He was a rotund officer with little fighting experience who literally drank the blood of a dead Lowland farmer to inspire his men. He died of stupidity a few days later.
