An Ancient People
The Kazmori are thought to be a branch of the Amanu pushed underground by the end of an ancient age. They live near but under the surface, often plucking through the rubble of Archaean remains and creating passages between and through ancient ruins which allow them to avoid the surface. sturdier than most other humanoids and intellectually inflexible, they often take on a single trade for their entire life, perfecting it. Kazmori prefer dark, claustrophobic spaces and stick to the walls and underbellies of cities, finding comfort in the traditions and stories of their ancient and declining civilization. Due to the traditions of exile and the Black Guard, many Kazmori living in the cites of Men or exploring the Archaea are former residents of Alekhand.Sons of Kazmora
The Kazmori are believed to be descended from slave stock who escaped from the destruction of Thrask by taking refuge in the ruins of old Kazmora, deep beneath the mines of Thrask. As such, Kazmora has an important significance to Kazmori, and their decor and artforms often call back to those of ancient Kazmora.Tradition and the Caste System
Kazmori abide by a strict caste system where jobs are passed from parent to child. Kazmori with more than one child must choose a child to exile to the Black Guard, a group of disgraced Kazmori which are only allowed to return home after serving a rotation in the mines and warrens of Alehkand. Many choose not to cross the threshold and return to their old lives for fear of being turned to stone.Kings of the Gray Chamber
The affairs of Alehkand are handled by the noble Deurgar, the highest cast of Alehkand who have greatly extended their lives through intentional and reversible petrification. Willing to spend most of their years as stone statues, they collectively make up the Gray Chamber. For one year, each King of the Gray Chamber presides over amendments to the law and family structure of Alehkand. As a result, Kazmori years are named for the current King of the Gray Chamber followed by the number of times that king has returned to the mortal world.Low King and Exile
Kazmori are ritually exiled from Alekhand, following in the footsweps of the Low King of Alehkand. To read more about the history Alehkand and the exile rituals, see Alekhand. It is said that Low King eventually returned and was turned to stone by the gate.Beyond Alehkand
Throughout history, many exiled Kazmori have settled in the Bastions beyond Alehkand or founded their own new settlements. Other Kazmori bastions include Athrak, Dovan and Breg. Kazmori are usually welcomed by the communities they choose to settle in, owing to their reputation as hard workers and talented craftsmen.
