The Erd are a resilient and tough people bred first for labor and then for warring by the Ythillians, likely from the stock of the Fodran folk. Vast armies of Erd were bred during the Cassildan Betrayal Interregnum, eventually leading to the Erd Rebellion, the demise of the Moda-Yur, and the proliferation of the Erd as a people under Erdene Sech. The Erd are naturally crepuscular, seeing best in twilight and preferring to hunt, forage and work during the hours of dusk and dawn.
The erd are purpose-built combatants with three ancient bloodlines.
The most common of the Erd is the the [[[Erd#Saka|Saka]]], a hursuit and stocky variety who live in the cool northlands. Saka have thick fur, stocky features, The average-sized [[[Erd#Yaudan|Yaudan]]] have substantially less hair than their relatives and are more common in the south regions. The smaller [[[Erd#Mux|Mux]]] descend from Erd who took refuge underground in the 18th age, but have since proliferated both in the bastion of the same name and amongst the forests where they often live up amongst the branches of the trees.
The Erd have a reputations as loyal warriors which makes all but the most dogmatic of the [[[Erd#Saka|Saka]]] welcome in most bastions. They fit well into jobs as watchmen or guards, but face a social stigma where they are often accused of any sort of wrong-doing occurring at night due to their nocturnal nature. This has caused many Erd to turn to vigilantism within their own communities which has further polarized public opinion.
