Abjuration

"The first thing all Conjurers should learn to summon is an Abjurer." - The Art of Conjuring

Historians and Guardians

Abjurers are the historians and guards of the College, often attending to the preservation of ancient texts or artifacts or called upon to banish unwelcome interlopers. They are the most likely to be welcomed by the general public, but are considered to be borish and unimaginative by members of the other Schools. Abjurers tend to work with the Divine Synod more often than other kinds of Mages, undoing the work of rogue Animists and Conjurers. That isn't to say that all Abjurers are benign; Abjurers can use their craft to conceal their dark machinations or extort powerful interlopers or undead.

Preservation of the Past

Much of the school of abjuration originates from seeds left by the Archivists of Omin-Zar, the arcane adherents of a former kingdom which once included the bastion of Daro. The Archivists themselves didn't limit their arcane works to Abjuration, but rather practiced many forms of magic necessary to the preservation of past knowledge. The Archivists created a number of especially long lasting physical and magical barriers which have been studied through the intervening ages. Puzzles, prisons (both filled and empty) and mysterious unopenable books and sealed vaults are all that publicly remains of the original order, through the current rulership of Daro has sought to style themselves as survivors or inheritors of the Omin-Zar legacy.

The Ancient Prisons

Various groups of Abjurers are tasked with maintaining ancient prisons and vaults such as the Black Prison and the Hedron. The prisoners and items interred in these places range from the mundane to the extraordinary. The magics which bind these wonders are beyond the understanding of even the Iron Circle of Alekhand who have studied barrier magic for literal Ages. Much of the College's current understanding of Abjuration magic comes instead from surviving sections of the famed library of Thyranos. Entombed within the lava flows which destroyed the great city are number of books about Kasbenirian history which describe gifts left behind by a delegation of visiting Archivists in the distant past.

Recalcitrant and Isolated

Those now who comprise the Abjuration school within the College are known to be a recalcitrant and isolated bunch, preferring to do much of their work in secluded environments accessible only to fellow practitioners of Abjuration magic. Silence is considered a virtue and much of the socialization that takes place within their environment comes in the form of puzzles and other highly encoded communications.

Mark of Abjuration

Abjuration is by its very nature a magic of binding and barriers, so the mark of the abjurer is a process of binding and inadvertent preservation of self.

Third Degree - Others will sometimes forget things the mage has told them. While occasionally useful, this can make giving instructions or making deals difficult. The Mage gets a 30% bonus to casting Abjuration spells but a 30% malus when defending from them.

Fourth Degree - [[[Indeciperable The mage's writings have become illegible to all but other mages of the same persuasion. Spoken messages lack clarity. The mage relies heavily on metaphor. The Mage gets a 40% bonus to casting Abjuration spells but a 40% malus when defending from them.
