Arcaic Spellcasting

Spells that use the magical language of Arcaic are difficult to cast as they require precise pronounciation. It can take a wizard a very long time to learn each spell and they often carry spell books that have phonetic information to assist the wizard. Many wizards draw their own symbols on their spell pages to give themselves a personal reminder about how to say a particular word or phrase exactly.

Spells

These are some of the useful spells that Marcus has studied and written notes about within his spellbook:

Arcaic Barrier: Generates a translucent shield that deflects non-elemental attacks.
Arcaic Nova: Unleashes a burst of concentrated magical energy that stuns or disorients nearby adversaries without elemental harm.
Echoing Dissonance: Unleashes a sonic wave that disrupts concentration and disorients foes.
Etherial Bridge: Conjures an ephemeral pathway allowing passage across difficult terrain or gaps.
Magic Skiff: Summons a small boat that the wizard can dismiss when he no longer needs it.
Mindscribe: Enchants an object to record and replay a conversation or sound.
Mystic Bind: Conjures spectral chains to temporarily restrain an opponent.
Reality Sunder: Tears a small rift in the fabric of reality, causing minor disintegration or disruption in a targeted area.
Temporal Snap: Briefly distorts time in a localized area, causing disorientation or slowing opponents.

No Fire or Lightning

Elemental attacks are within the domain of Dragons and Sorcerers. Wizards cannot summon lightining or fire attacks. Wizards generally specialize more in utility spells but they do have a few tricks up their sleeves in a fight.

Code Origins

When a Wizard casts a spell within The Cosmos, he is actually entering a script into the game engine. The engine will then trigger the appropriate response.

Because Kaesta wrote these spells into her game and included them in The Dreamstone Codex, many wizards believe that magic spells are a gift from The Dreamer. They often view their spell casting as a means to improve their lives in a way that their goddess would approve of.

Precise pronunciation being required can lead to some fun hijinks. :D

Hah! Intriguing that the wizards all have their own bespoke writing system for pronunciation instead of a specific written phonetic standard. I suppose this makes sure other wizards can't 'copy/paste' the spells from one wizard's spell book to another without knowing the wizard and their peculiar pronunciation.   I also love the metanarrative of The Dreamer. Well done.

Awe, thank you! I don't think humans have come up with a standard phonetic system, but that would make things easier for sure. Maybe this is why people have to pay to go to a university and find a mentor to help them grow as a wizard. I really like The Dreamer too. She's a programmer, a dreamer, a storyteller, and a kind soul.

This is great! I like how you differentiate between elements;l and arcaic magic. That is so essential so classes don't blend all into one!

Thanks, Dazz! I wanted to show that Marcus has to use his brains in a fight since his spells are more utilitarian instead of brute force magic, like the dragons and sorcerers use.
