Jlosa Hospital

We are many people's last hope. This is not something I take lightly, do you?
— Salmu, current head of the Jlosa Hospital
The world renowned Jlosa Hospital is at the forefront of medical research and discovery especially disease research. The cure for Wicked Stomach and the all purpose stomach soothing cure that the cure was based off of were both discovered at the hospital. Unlike most other hospitals, the Jlosa Hospital is not limited to those with enough money to pay for treatment and the hospital is not primarily focused on seeing individual patients; it is instead focused on research. The hospital is funded by the Kohri government and private doners. Despite it's great reputation, the hospital is not above criticism especially criticism of its research first focus.

Purpose / Function

The Jlosa Hospital exists first and foremost for research. Patients are often desperate, having nowhere else to turn and a disease or condition that will almost certainly kill them. The hospital has been criticized for this as some believe that the hospital takes advantage of desperate people who are willing to do anything to relieve their pain.

Architecture

The hospital is a mudbrick building with little decoration built around a central courtyard. The courtyard shrine is an exception, it is surrounded by mosaics and rare plants and the statues of the deities are richly decorated. Near the building is a large garden of medicinal plants and the final resting place of many of the hospital's former patients.

History

After Ahgu's Slayer destroyed most of Jlosa, one of the first buildings to be rebuilt was the hospital. What started as a simple mudbrick structure to treat the wounded quickly grew alongside the city's rebuilding efforts. The hospital had formerly only been for the wealthy but after seeing how much of a difference the hospital could make, especially during the Grave Finger plague that swept through the city a year and a half into the rebuilding process, the hospital head, Luku, changed the hospital's objective. As Jlosa's rebuilding efforts were coming to an end, the hospital had already come to the world's attention for developing a more effective treatment for chronic pain and for research into Grave Finger. The hospital was rebuilt to better suit its new role and a large shrine to the deities, in thanks for Jlosa's recovery and the hospital's research, was built in the middle of the new hospital.

Recently, herbalists at the hospital have discovered a cure for Wicked Stomach, bringing the hospital into the global spotlight and encouraging researchers from around the world to travel to Jlosa. People around the world are hopeful that this cure will lead to the discovery of many others.
