War of the Seneschal Court Military Conflict in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

War of the Seneschal Court

The war of the Seneschal Court took place over a single month on the Henderent Plains and it's surroundings. The Seneschals of the Minam Empire were left to their own devices after it's central organization failed. While nominally all seneschals were accountable to the Emperor they had a significant difference of opinion on how to handle the various crisis.

The Conflict

Prelude

The elves of the province of Ophidiomar was seeking compensation from the halflings and dwarves of the region. They blamed the shorter races for the plague and were suspicious of their involvement in the demise of the Mystic Engines. The dwarves city of Wano Dez denied such allegations, but when the elves were suffering greatly the guard captain Alan Alwyn forcefully took the title seneschal and started amassing a fighting force.

Deployment

Alan Alwyn brought his troops from the south through the The Goldenwood heading to the towns of the hills. Guekwal Fult the constable of the region got wind of this invasion and amassed a militia from Wano Dez and the many other villages in the region.

Battlefield

In the foothills where the Shield Hills meet the Henderent Plains the two forces met in battle. The locals had built some movable light barricades and had the advantage of elevation.

The Engagement

The elves and their allies outnumbered the Halflings and Dwarves, but were at a disadvantage due to the terrain. Casualties on both sides were severe, and in the end Alan Alwyn defeated the militia and marched throughout the Shield Hills razing the villages and destroying the local herds. The campaign only stopped at Wano Dez where the defensive force was bolstered by refugee militia members, and the city was protected by hundreds of feet of dirt and rock. The broken force of Alan Alwyn departed when Alan was killed by the halfling archer Yuina Kormato. Associated skirmishes had broken out all along the Henderent plains as a result of this invasion, but soon subsided. The casualties were not numbered as the people were so tired of death that bodies were buried quickly.
