Orac Eggs Tradition / Ritual in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

Orac Eggs

Orac Eggs is a bit misleading as they are actually the testes of the Orac. Commonly eaten at certain rural Evanis coming of adulthood ceremonies. While not every youth at these festivities will eat them, it is a central feature that the Orac eggs be served in a hearty stew.    Some youth will embark on a trip to hunt their own in preparation for their adulthood ceremony and bring back the animal complete for making into jerky and stew. Depending on the village or clan, this hunt could be performed with knife only, or with bow and arrow. Most will spend at least a week hunting an orac down. Some are sufficiently successful that it only takes a day or two.   Some will prepare them with Intrac Jelly into a powerful inducer of prophetic visions. This particular preparation uses less intrac jelly than in the typical use, and often in a less refined and desert hunted way. Used by some Oblooks to help guide their communities through difficult seasons, it's use is frowned upon as it can lead to as much wrong decisions as right ones.

History

It is believed that the hero Jurial was the origin of the ritual, having eaten a stew of Orac for 30 days finally subsisting on the organ meat when the rest ran out. It was a few days after that he killed the great desert serpent Irin Lon Horvanalin. Such a victory with his lighting glass blade was celebrated throughout the desert. The cruel serpent had long ruled over a desert palace of great sandstone.
