Wings of Night Item in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Wings of Night

The Wings of Night are an aspect of the Lord of Night, Carrot, stolen from him by Baba Yaga in an age lost to history. While the wings will bond to any creature that dons them, they are most at home with creatures of Night, and wish to one day return to the shoulders of their original master.

Effect

When worn, the Wings of Night merge seamlessly into the bearer's flesh, phasing through clothes, armor, and other equipment. The wings are Incorporeal, and are thus partially protected against corporeal effects that would disrupt flight, such as heavy winds or targeted attacks. The wings grant the bearer a flight speed (regardless of armor limitations) equivalent to their base speed, have perfect manueverability, and are partially sentient. Should the bearer go unconscious while wearing these wings, the wings themselves will keep their body aloft, and will even move their ward from immediate danger if possible. If the bearer wishes, the wings can be drawn back into their body as a free action on their turn, which removes all effects of the wings. They can be resummoned at any time with a Swift Action.   Once per week, the wings can shift their bearer to the plane of Night as a Full Action, landing as close to the central gardens as possible. Note that beyond this point the bearer is at the mercy of the Lord of Night -- both in terms of their stay, and the method of returning home.   The wings do not count against the total number of magic items a character can wear at one time, but still takes up the character's cloak slot.
