Clockwork city Settlement in The Call of The Tree | World Anvil

Clockwork city

12 layers beneath The City of Middlepoint, there is a settlement full of Homunculi. One can see all sorts of them here. Simple robots of Walking Cogs, Inc., transporting goods and cargo between the buildings, shearing the lawns, and cleaning the streets. Pets of Small Friends, Co., resembling animals, both normal and fantastical, playing and running around the park and flying above the houses. Humanoid dolls of Little Helpers, Co., human-animal hybrids of Fur and Fang, Inc. and hard to distinguish from human models of Almost Human, Inc., all doing their errands, talking to each other, and spending time together.

Demographics

Most of the inhabitants of the city are homunculi, with people living here being mostly mechanics, repairmen, and factory workers. Besides them, the only other humans are in 99% cases the tourists and potential customers of one or few of the companies.

History

The town has been created by the owners of five homunculus-producing companies. At first, it was only an idea of the owner of Almost Human, Inc. Maria Stein, but once her competitors learned about her plan, they wanted to join in creating a town where they could display their new creations freely, working together and interacting.   The process of repurposing the ruins didn't take long, and so, 3 years ago, on the 12th year of Awakening, 12 layers beneath The Middlepoint, first homunculi were introduced to their new home.

Architecture

The buildings here look mostly like what one could see looking at Christmas greeting cards. Colorful homes and huts, decorations hung between them.

Geography

The town is built on a hill, with winding roads and sidewalks leading up its slope. At the bottom of the hill, there is a park with a calm river running through it. The factories of the 5 companies are located on the other side of the hill, at some distance, so they don't destroy the nice view.

What a great marketing technique. For some reason I picture those animatronic Christmas village decorations.
