Catfolk

Catfolk are a proud and mysterious race of anthropomorphic cat-like beings, known for their agility, keen senses, and hunting instinct. Two major groups of Catfolk exist, each adapted to their distinct environments in the frozen north of Asgellion and the wild jungles of Angoth. They are known respectively as the Qittari and the Miztli.

Physical Description

Catfolk possess humanoid bodies with feline features, standing on two legs and possessing a tail for balance. Their fur varies between the two groups, with the northern Catfolk sporting white fur adorned with black spots, resembling snow leopards, while their southern counterparts showcase yellow fur adorned with brown spots, reminiscent of jungle-dwelling wildcats. Their eyes range in color, but vibrant shades of green, yellow, and amber are common, often glowing with an uncanny intensity in the darkness.

Culture and Society

Catfolk are reclusive and enigmatic, valuing their independence and ancestral ties above all. Each group maintains distinct customs and traditions, shaped by their surroundings. The northern Qittari are expert hunters and trackers, relying on their keen senses and camouflage-like fur patterns to move stealthily through the snowy landscape. They live in nomadic tribes, following herds of elusive prey.   The southern Miztli, on the other hand, have adapted to the dense jungles of Angoth. They excel at climbing trees and leaping from branch to branch, utilizing their powerful legs and sharp claws for both defense and agility. The jungle tribes are deeply spiritual, often led by wise shamans who communicate with nature spirits and ancestral guardians.

Abilities and Traits

Catfolk have honed their natural instincts and developed impressive physical abilities. Both groups possess heightened senses of sight, smell, and hearing, making them exceptional scouts and sentinels. Their retractable claws provide formidable natural weapons, capable of delivering lethal strikes in combat.

Relations with Other Species

Catfolk are elusive and cautious around other races, often preferring to maintain a distance to safeguard their cultural heritage and avoid potential conflicts. However, they hold a particular reverence for the Wood Elves, admiring their affinity with nature and ancient wisdom.

Alignment and Outlook

As a people deeply attuned to their environments, catfolk often display a neutral outlook, respecting the balance of nature and seeking to live in harmony with it. Though individual catfolk may embrace various alignments, their societies often emphasize cooperation and preservation over conquest or dominance.

Adventurers

While many catfolk prefer the solitude of their respective habitats, some feel a wanderlust that drives them to explore the wider world. Adventuring catfolk often seek ancient knowledge, hidden treasures, or answers to age-old mysteries. Their natural abilities make them formidable rogues, rangers, and monks, well-suited for the challenges that await beyond their homelands.
