Miztli

Living in the vibrant heart of the jungles of Angoth, the Miztli are spirited and enigmatic catfolk. Deeply attuned to the primal energies of the rainforest, the Angothian catfolk find solace and guidance in the natural world, nurturing a spiritual culture that intertwines with the very essence of their jungle home.   Their relationship with The Triple Alliance of Icpatepec is a complex and often troubled one. The Miztli are wary of the expansionist tendencies of the humans and orcs, who seek to exploit the bountiful resources of the jungle. Tensions arise over territorial encroachments and resource disputes, leading to occasional clashes between the two factions. Despite these conflicts, there are some individuals who strive for peaceful coexistence, believing that understanding and harmony between their cultures can be achieved.   At the core of Miztli society lies a profound reverence for the dead goddess Dunyawal, whose body is said to comprise their lush surroundings. They view themselves as the chosen guardians of her sacred realm, and their spirituality is deeply interwoven with rituals honoring her memory. In secluded shrines and sacred clearings, they pay homage to the goddess, offering prayers and tributes to keep the balance of life and death in the jungle intact.   The Miztli possess a keen understanding of the rhythms of the rainforest, often referred to as the "Children of the Canopy." They possess an innate ability to navigate the treetops with unmatched grace, using this advantage to scout for potential threats, while simultaneously eluding danger when necessary. In tune with the natural world, they communicate with the fauna, forging bonds with the jungle's denizens that grant them insight and allies in their ventures.   Their spiritual practices involve communing with the spirits of the jungle, seeking guidance from ancient guardians, and partaking in elaborate ceremonies to honor the cycle of life and rebirth. The concept of "oneness with nature" permeates their beliefs, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all living beings and the sanctity of the jungle's delicate ecosystem.   As keepers of ancient wisdom and guardians of the divine realm, the Miztli exude an air of mystique and dignity. Their distinct culture, deeply rooted in both reverence for nature and the divine legacy of Dunyawal, makes them a captivating and formidable presence amidst the verdant embrace of the Angothian jungles.
