Umzi Nightstar

Chieftain Umzi Nightstar

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Umzi Nightstar took over as Chieftain of The Nightstar Clan after Chieftain Tok Nightstar resigned.

Umzi supported Chieftain Tok Nightstar when the split happened. He viewed The Sandstorm Clan as a disgrace, a clan that shouldn't even be allowed to exist. He wanted badly to track them down, but during the split a lot of their spies sided with The Sandstorm Clan

Umzi spent a lot of his time rebuilding the great spy network that the Nightstars had before the split. He recruited and installed new training for the spies. He setup training specific for them to keep up deception over a long period of time. He instructed them to seek positions close to the people around the Chieftains, but not close the Chieftains themselves. He wanted them to maintain distance and look for positions that would allow them to somewhat blend in with the background where they could just quietly listen. He warned them not to seek high ranking positions as they would likely be discovered with more people looking at them. He did advise them to make friends in an effort to build a backstory and people to come to their aid if suspicions ever arose. He told them most importantly to just blend in, to go with the flow of the clan they were spying on and not to cause any issues that would bring attention to them.

Umzi dedicated most of his time to his spy network. One day, he received a note from his spy with The Blackfoot Clan. The note informed him that Nork Blackfoot was wishing to speak to him personally in three weeks. Umzi spent this time preparing for the meeting, he sent word back to his spy to see what the meeting was about. A week before the meeting, he received another note with one word, "Unity." Umzi puzzled over this for the remaining week. He had heard rumblings of peace among the clans, but nothing that seemed to be worthy of consideration. Three days before the meeting was to take place, he received a messenger from The Blackfoot Clan stating that Chieftain Nork Blackfoot wished to speak with him at the border of their territories. Umzi told the messenger that he would agree to speak to Nork and sent the messenger on his way.

Umzi gathered a small handful of his closest aids and traveled to the border to meet Nork. Once he arrived at the border, he saw that Nork had already setup a small camp. Umzi, instead of making his own camp, crossed the territory border and walked up to Nork's campsite. Nork greeted him with a smile and held out his hand to shake, "Umzi, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. I am sorry to hear that the Nightstar's split, but I am sure it was for the best." Umzi was a bit shocked at the first meeting, this was the infamous Black Death that he had heard about? Umzi towered over Nork. Umzi stood at 3'5" and Nork at 2'8". In his mind, he always pictured Nork as this abnormally large Kobold, certainly not this small. Umzi returned the smile and shook Nork's hand, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Black Death." Nork shook his head, "Please, call me Nork. That name means nothing today. We are here to hopefully bury the past."

They sit down and talk. Nork explains to Umzi that he is wanting to unify the kobolds. To put an end to the senseless fighting and to unite under one banner. He explained that he was tired of hearing of how many died during raids and skirmishes between the clans everyday. He stated that it made him feel sick and made him regret all the lives that he had personally taken during the conflicts. Umzi sat quietly, allowing Nork to speak. After Nork finished, he stated, "This would require all of the Chieftains to be willing to make sacrifices, including the Blackfoots. It will only work if we all are dedicated to it and are willing to bury the past. Umzi, would you be willing to put an end to all of this and unite?" Umzi sat quietly in deep thought. The Nightstars didn't have any real personal grievances with any of the other clans, but the Standstorm Clan. The hatred for them was still fresh, there was no love for them. Umzi changed the subject while he thought about it, asking Nork what life was like in the Blackfoots. Umzi didn't really listen to the responses, he was just delaying. As the sun began to set, Umzi finally answered the question from hours earlier, "Nork, you will have my support. I will do my best to get my clan members to agree, but the hate for the Sandstorm is still fresh. However, I will try." Nork smiled and nodded, "That is all that I can ask of you, Umzi. We will meet in a few months in Ishtaden. I will send word to you when time comes."

Umzi returned to his people the next day. Word had spread around the Nightstars about the meeting and he was met with a bombardment of questions. He wanted to address all of his people personally, so he sent word to have the village of Pazi emptied and for all to come to Durnork. There were some concerns about leaving Pazi, but he assured them that nothing would happen to the village. Once everyone had gathered in Durnork, he held a speech to inform everything that him and Chieftain Nork Blackfoot had discussed. The clan was very split in the beginning, but as time passed everyone eventually warmed up to the idea.

Umzi met with the other Chieftains in Ishtaden and helped unify the Kobolds.
