Spirit

It has long been understood that there are aspects of the world which cannot be seen or touched, commonly understood to be made from the shredded fragments of the driving will of the World-Weary, often called their Breath. Those constructions of Divine Breath which are possessed of a capacity for independent action, and which are not inseparably bound to physical forms, are called Spirits.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The internal composition of spirits can be highly varied, but there are two aspects which are universal and absolute. First, that a spirit's composition must include a significant quantity of the Breath of Pennak, as described by the Law of Will. Second, there must be an overriding influence of stability, either from the significant presence of the Breath of Kogrun, or the significant presence of the Flesh of Kogrun in an object to which it has bound itself, as described by the Law of Unity.

Genetics and Reproduction

Spirits form when godsbreath coalesces in a fashion that satisfies the Law of Will, and usually require some means of satisfying the Law of Unity. Thrones provide an environment in the material world which is highly dense in godsbreath, resulting in a significantly higher rate of Spirit formation, and protects these nascent spirits from the dissolution that might follow if they otherwise violated the Law of Unity.

Dietary Needs and Habits

As they lack an innate physical form, spirits do not generally require sustenance. Those spirits which can create physical manifestations still do not require food, as the manifestation is derived from the godsbreath invested into it, which is not lost even if the manifestation is damaged.   The sole exception are the Aza Thul, spirits which coalesced around the Zhalon Thul, also known as the Throne of Hunger. For a time, there was only one of the Aza Thul, Aztarnak the Devourer, which consumed all of its kin, but lesser Aza Thul were allowed to flourish when the Godeaters consumed Aztarnak.

Biological Cycle

Spirits do not generally grow or develop with time. If they are able to persist in the long term, their nature is resistant to change. If they are not, they face dissolution. That isn't to say it is impossible for a spirit to change, either linearly into a stronger variation of its original state, or laterally into a different kind of spirit, but it would be an involved process, and would not happen naturally.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Spirits are invariably perceive spiritual existence around them, tracking the flow of the godsbreath with perfect accuracy. Some also have the capacity to perceive the physical world, though these senses manifest in diverse ways often dependent on the kind of spirit in question.
