Pennak, The Shining Majesty

The Shining Majesty, Moon-and-Sun, Skin-of-Light, Sun of Glory, Glorious Artisan

Shining and glittering in arrogance, Pennak—that Sun of Glory, that Skin-of-Light—pledged itself to the World. This hubris would be its destruction.
— from The World-Weary, as told in the Borregan Lothok

The brilliance, the glory, the majesty; weightless and insubstantial. Such is the nature of beauty and of genius, all born of the Shining Majesty
— from the Rakat

The figure known to our people as the Glorious Artisan, and as the Shining Majesty to the people of Kantirin, as a monarch might be called majesty, produced a more esoteric aspect of the world than its peers. Its Flesh is all things upon which the senses feast. Most obvious is light, the medium by which sight functions. But in the body, its flesh can also be found in the throat, where sounds are made, and the skin, where scents are made. It is what makes metals and jewels shine. Even those repulsive things, like the scent of rotting corpses, are made of the flesh of the Sun.
— from The Body Divine, by Alkeptoros

Holy Books & Codes

A number of sacred texts and stories from around the world refer to various interpretations of Pennak. The most prominent of these is the Doloros Rakat, an amalgam of religious and civil doctrine, which describes Pennak as a heavenly monarch, who manifests both as the sun, and as a mortal avatar—the reigning monarch of Kantirin, the Celestial Potentate.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

The physical form Mallat took before the creation of the world is known only to the World-Weary, inasmuch as they know anything, and to Velir. Myth and legend form fragments of an image—great flaming eyes, a thousand wings with a thousand feathers, and vibrant, shining colors.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

In the void of the Dawn, there were four: Kogrun, Mallat, Pennak, and Vassar. Kogrun devised the idea of creating the world, and convinced Pennak, as well as Mallat, to aid in the venture. Whereas Vassar was opposed to turning itself to restricted venture, and Mallat sought creative challenge and fulfillment, Pennak saw in creation the opportunity to exalt and glorify itself.   As nothing else existed, the three who endeavored to create what would become the world used themselves as the construction materials. As Pennak's chief interests lay in its own exultation, it sought to create things of dazzling beauty. It made itself into a shining brilliance, casting minuscule portions of itself across the world as light. Pennak designed this light to warp when it crashed against a physical object, taking on a color, which could then be seen. Additionally, Pennak took inspiration from Mallat's Tide, and created the air from its flesh, so that it may carry sound.   Ultimately, the strain of creation proved too great for Pennak. In a stunning moment of cataclysm, when Pennak could no longer keep hold of itself, its shining light broke apart into the sun and the moon, and the two bodies were set upon their journey across the sky.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Pennak is arrogant, and self-obsessive. Though invested in a sort of camaraderie with the other World-Weary, its interest lies chiefly with its own glorification and the propagation of its self.
