The Races of Thaiterra
There are three sentient species on Thaiterra, among a host of hardy plant and animal life. They each have their own languages, their own history, and in the cases where history has intertwined, things have gotten difficult. The Agaridian Plains are rather unique in how long the three races have been able to live in relative harmony.
Humans
The main focus of the series, the
Human race was once the species apex of the planet, until some disaster occurred and they were all but wiped out. A scant few remain, sealed tightly in
Tholaren Dome, because there's no longer enough oxygen in the outside air for them to breathe.
They believe they are all that remains of humanity, and treat their lives accordingly, living by the precepts laid down by the
Insignia Council, and by the AI computer that advises on things like marriage and job status. History is forgotten, lost in the chaos of the event that locked them in their Dome, and they strive to survive, while also avoiding taking authority over a planet that is no longer theirs to control.
They have gradually isolated themselves within the Dome, pulling back from the Garruw and Weinadi as allies, until it has been generations since last official contact.
Weinadi
The
Weinadi are a large mammalian species with thick fur, typically white. Historically, they were the prey of the Garruw, and so the majority of them now live underground in caves and caverns, and in the deep valleys that are more protected from the storms. Thanks to the Accords, the Garruw are no longer theoretically a danger, but old customs remain, and the storms still cause great damage.
In Wulei Ranifa, some of the major factions include the
Yagupa, who work with the Garruw, the
Basadu, the majority who live underground in cities approximately matching the Industrial Age in terms of technology, and the
Dheizei, who roam the surface in traditional tribal groups.
The
Katolu Federation is a major organization in the area, solidifying the Weinadi against southern invaders and other foreign countries that would seek to take the resources they've fought so hard for.
Garruw
The
Garruw are the apex predators of Thaiterra. Their incredible speed while flying enables them to have a more global focus than the other races. They possess teeth and claws, as well as an energy blast that is as impressive as the lightning strikes the Garruw use to fuel themselves.
Their society has grown past the need to hunt the Weinadi for food, and this has been banned for centuries now. This act has understandably caused a great deal of tension. Agarruta Drei is unusual in how well the two species get along.
The Garruw value intelligence and philosophy over all other traits. One of the things they continually strive for is to reach the stars, something they have not achieved as of yet. Even their primitive religions, like
The Faith of the Star-Eyed revolve around celestial bodies.
A Deep-Seated Unease
The world of Thaiterra is on the verge of change. Outside of the Agaridian Plains, racial tensions rise and threaten to cause violence. Within the plains, the presence of humans provides a unique discord that disquiets their neighbors. Their actions, knowing or unknowing, may yet lead to violence.
Within the Dome itself, strange things are happening. A new
Insignia has been discovered, throwing their government into chaos, and the need to band together for survival may not be enough to quell anger at past and present crimes.
