Physical Description
Hikaru often appears as a dark skinned Japanese woman with wide hips and long legs, long red hair that is blond at the tips, and extremely sharp long nails. She has tattoos on her arms, chest, legs, and down her back. She will often wear a simple, handmade looking skirt, deep cut sleeveless top, and a fur mantle long with her most prominent symbol, maple leaf earrings made of gold and rubies. Often, she accents her outfits with fox tails.
It is well known that Hikaru does not truly look like how she appears to mortals and those who can see magic can easily tell she is using a form of illusion or transformation magic on her own body. What the god of foxes does truly look like is unknown, however there have been many speculations based on the appearances of her children, such as
Aurora Vulapin,
Amos Vulapin, and
Raina Vulapin, who all have dark hair, freckles and birthmarks, green eyes, or other traits not seen in their father Ferventi or his other children.

Hikaru is often known for wearing makeup, in simple and subdued styles, but in bright colors around her eyes.
Hikaru is skilled with transformation and illusion magic, often using it to play pranks and tricks on god and mortal alike. Her transformations, particularly if given as a boon or a curse, are noted to be permanent, and only able to be removed by her. As such, many transgender individuals are known to go to her, seeking to change their bodies to be more fitting as a way of combating dysphoria.
Hikaru always wears earrings in the shape of maple leaves made out of gold and rubies, even in her divine form. Contrary to her divine form, she appears rather humble in mortal form, with handmade clothing in simple styles. She doesn't often wear shoes, claiming they separate her from the earth.
In divine form, Hikaru retains her earrings and fur mantle, but also a cloak of billowing maple leaves. Her legs are shrouded in magic, appearing to lose detail and form as if made of smoke.

She forges strong allegiances with other gods, but also keeps her enemies close, making it hard to pin down exactly where her trust lies. The War of Black Ash era, in which multiple fox gods were killed in rapid succession due to conflicts with other gods, mortals, and dragons. during which time the species representing all foxes was changed repeatedly. Although there is little historical evidence, many older gods have supported claims and theories that Hikaru's bloodline came into the pantheon due to her maternal grandmother inheriting the position from her mate, passing down through Hikaru's mother, and then finally to her.
Personality Characteristics
Hikaru loves tricks, puzzles, and pranks and is known to pull them on others frequently. She also loves maple trees, using their leaves as one of her divine symbols. Despite her love of trickery and pranks she does have a strong dislike to those that are needlessly cruel, claiming those who use mischief to cause misfortune to those already in bad straights give tricksters a bad name.
Often times, Hikaru likes to appear to mortals as an ordinary person but not always in her known form, often first appearing in the form of an old woman or an acquaintance to judge their reaction to her. She will often give boons and curses out depending on the mortal's reception. Sometimes she will appear as a young man as well, one who looks as though he could be her brother.

Other than her daughters, Aurora and Raina, Hikaru does not keep her family very close. Aurora is the exception as her heir, and Raina being too young to live on her own. She is fond of her son Amos, but as he lives with his father, Ferventi, does not see him very often.

Aurora is Hikaru's eldest child, sired by Ferventi. As the eldest, it falls to Aurora to be prepared to take on her mother's mantle if she dies, and guide her kind. For this task, Hikaru has trained her since she was quite young with a kind yet firm hand, ensuring her daughter fully understands what is expected of her.

Whenever these two are in the same area grand tricks and pranks will be abound. Sometimes pulled on each other and sometimes pulled on others(both gods and mortals alike). A good time is likely to be had between them and their illusion magic no matter their outcome, the same can not be said for their potential victims however their tricks tend to be harmless and avoid unnecessary cruelty.

Oddly, John seems to be one of her few genuine friends. However, many suspect the validity of their relationship as JL is a notorious trickster god while Ana and Nancy are infamous manipulators, leading some to conclude that the spiders have managed to trick John or John is trying to trick the spider. Some even think they are both trying to trick each other. JL claims he can tell whenever the spider gods tell a lie but there is no concrete information proving this is true or false. Others think that at some point JL simply saw what the spider gods saw within the branching roots of fate or that they wanted to take advantage of his large cult and influence and the fact that fireflies have a more favorable reputation than spiders. Either way, Ana and Nancy helped him in the past when he was mortal and he seems to trust them to some degree, it is at the very least in their best interest to keep him alive and popular for now. Joining the Cult of Spiders also comes with the benefit of the gods promising that they can change your fate or rewrite one’s destiny as needed instead of just being a slave to it like others outside their cult.

Hikaru is known to interact closely with the spider gods but this is not out of friendship or kinship from being trickster gods or the like but rather the fox god’s habit of forging strong alliances and keeping her enemies close. While the gods do officially have an alliance and work together there is always a hidden tension as each one weaves their own plans and tricks. Their interactions can be mind-boggling to a mortal as Hikaru may attempt to trick Nancy but Nancy saw the trick coming as a possible future so they in turn trick Hikaru who saw that trick coming and so on and so forth. Their interactions are often long and odd to say the least but they are known to both seemingly aid each other from time to time, but this is usually done with some sort of other purpose or intention in mind and not out of pure kindness. He will proactively trick Hikaru on occasion as a way of getting back at the fox god for a trick they are about to pull.

Although a rather wealthy god, Hikaru does not display it outwardly. She lives in a cottage deep in the land of gods with a small yet productive garden to lure in rabbits and mice as prey, her home similarly doing so to lost mortals with its warm, inviting appearance. She has a vast collection of precious gems, mostly rubies, that she will transform into figurines of foxes, rabbits, and maple trees or leaves. These are often given to her followers and priests.
