Chevalier has a holiday that parallels that of Valentines Day that his cult celebrates.
He has always been a bit of a romantic and a very artistic god that usually just wants to make and foster great art and artists alike. He often performs concerts that are meant to inspire others. He has a goal of creating the “perfect” song. One that is so perfected it could influence and emotionally resonate with any god or mortal who heard it. Some will summon him during performances and if he is impressed he will grant the performer(s) and the summoner his favor and / or gifts. He sometimes performs grand performances with the god of cicadas and John de Luminarie. Typically the cricket and cicada gods provide sounds and music while John provides visuals. He has an orchestra composed of only the most talented of his high priests and he occasionally teaches art classes.
Physical Description
He typically takes on the form of a vampire that is tall, lanky, and scrawny. Unlike the typical vampire, he has an extra pair of arms. He usually has his hair in the form of dreads that are slicked back and a beard that is done into a point as well as an extremely thin mustache. He often wears something resembling a suit. The clothes they wear often have some visible stitching or wiring on them.
He has special strings that have been drilled into his teeth and woven in between the teeth on his from top to bottom. By plucking them with their tongue or finger they can create various noises. It is rumored that the god of spiders had something to do with their presence or implementation.
He has a special string within his mouth and typically takes on the form of a vampire. So he has pronounced canines and pointy ears characteristic of vampires. He is sensitive to sunlight while in this form, making him more active at night. He has ornate prosthetic legs with a wooden and puppet like appearance. He also has an extra pair of arms and hands when in mortal form. Giving him six limbs while in the form of a vampire or any other sufficiently humanoid race.
Their divine form is that of a monstrous cricket that is about the size of the average mage or vampire’s arm. Parts of its body contain strings that can be plucked and played by his various arms and it can rub its legs together to make a sound like a normal cricket. His hindmost legs appear to still be some form of wooden puppet prosthetic. Chevalier can influence others by producing specific songs and noises. Most famously he can produce sounds that cause someone who hears them to become dizzy or nauseous. This effect can be so strong that it can cause those who hear it to crumple to the ground and be left unable to even crawl or kneel as long as Chevalier is making these noises. He can also simply launch himself at blinding speeds and turn himself into a living bullet. Although, despite the protection his exoskeleton provides making contact with something while moving this fast can leave him feeling sore.
He is extremely proficient when it comes to using wind mana to manipulate, create, and alter sound waves. He is typically very thoughtful and artful about how he uses his abilities and composes them much like how one would compose music, dance, or performance. His abilities often have a supportive, subtle, and or graceful approach and despite having the power of a god he has never been seen just blasting people with soundwaves or wind. His magic is usually precise and considered. He is also known to be incredibly skilled at using Aura Synchronization with even large groups of people and he can use this to increase the reach and power of his spells to great effect. He typically takes on a more indirect or supportive role when it comes to magic or combat.
He has very strong artificial legs and can jump absurd distances at mind-dizzying speeds as well as deliver a devastating kick.
He is a master of using the Singing Blades spell to generate beautiful music. He is also capable of using the spell efficiently in combat.
He is known to wear a dark brown(nearly black) suit that has visible stitches and strings holding it together with various parts of the outfits. They can commonly be seen with a pair of headphones.
Chevalier has a silver violin with golden strings that can replicate any sound he has heard based on memory. However, the violin’s main ability is the fact that it can be used to aid in the process of Aura Synchronization and can allow even people who have no idea how to synchronize aura to be able to do so perfectly while within range of its music. It also prevents the negative effects of improper or imperfect aura synchronization and can cause the heartbeats and emotions of all involved to become synchronized into some sort of median between all those involved, or as close as it can be depending on how widely different each participant is in biology and essence. Chevalier must also be synchronized with the participants he is affecting with this ability. The violin can also be used to cancel out other wind magic that comes into the range of the violin’s sound waves but a specific tune must be played depending on how the wind is flowing and Chevalier must be able to play it fast enough if they intend to stop it from hitting a target or working. The string of the violin’s bow and the string of the violin itself is oddly sharp unless they are being handled by a god. He can swing his bow to cut mortals or any sufficiently weak materials using this string. Some rumors say it was the god of spiders that made this instrument.
He has a strange vaguely rapier-like sword that has a gap with a string going down its center and various holes and grooves within its blade. When swung it produces a whistling noise that causes all who hear it to become dizzy and so disoriented the blade, along with its wielder will seem like it has afterimages. A whirling wind is also used to distort the blade’s true shape when it is swung to further throw opponents off. When it is thrust forward it produces a blast of wind and sound in that direction. The blade’s true function is that of an instrument that is used in tandem with magic.
He has a phone that will automatically type whatever the holder is thinking in the form of a text. He will sometimes use this to write notes of what he wants to say and show, or send, them to the recipient. However, he usually just uses sign language. Although, the phone can be used to send texts very quickly.
Mental characteristics
The god of crickets went without a proper name for an extremely long period of time, not knowing which one to choose. He eventually named himself Chevalier after Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a name that was proposed by the god of cicadas.
At some point, they fell in love with and got married to the god of cicadas. They often practice experimental music and songs with each other. While they create truly historic or amazing songs every once in a while, most of the time their duets just sound like a cacophony of noise.
He once performed a duet with Appylon, god of deer, known as the song of “Night and Day” by the Cult of Crickets and the song of “Day and Knight” by followers of Appylon. The song went on for 24 hours straight.
At some point, he fell in love with the current goddess of fireflies John de Luminarie, and aided him on many of his adventures after he was banished from the city of New Orleans by the previous god of fireflies. They are currently married and in a polycule with the god of cicadas.
He is currently part of the Cult of John de Luminarie and is the god champion of the violet ray, a part of the cult that mainly focuses on things like traveling shows, plays, bands, and circuses as well as their respective actors, dancers, performers, musicians, and the like. Like with most parts of the cult, while Chevalier may interact directly with the cult a lot of the time he typically has a very hands-off or lax approach to whatever the specifics of the cult are doing at any given time. Wandering bards, musicians, orchestras, etc. that are part of the Cult of Crickets often join the travels of the violet ray or are also members of the Cult of JL and use it as a chance to perform for masses of people.
He uses he / him pronouns and is cisgender.
Personality Characteristics
He is a romantic and is known to love good music and artists, which also extends to arts beyond that of just music. He spends most of his time creating new pieces of music, searching for inspiration, or performing concerts/orchestras. He likes spending time with John de Luminarie and the god of cicadas especially when it comes to working on pieces of art.
He is known to dislike pessimism and overly pessimistic people. He has the same view of nihilism. There is nothing wrong with being realistic but he finds being pessimistic can often be unhelpful. He also dislikes people and systems that stifle most forms of artistic freedom. He also greatly dislikes bloodshed but understands that sometimes one must fight.
Like most insect and bug-related gods he generally dislikes pesticides, even natural ones, as they can prove harmful to crickets.
He loves art and can easily become hyper-fixated on a specific piece he is trying to perfect or an amazing piece of art someone else made and/or is trying to make. It can be hard to get his attention when this happens. He is known to upload videos on the internet in which he analyzes art.
He is also known to space out, even in important conversations, when a good idea crosses his mind. He will often pull out a piece of paper and begin frantically scribbling something, like notes, a sketch, music notations, etc.
He is a very peaceful and polite god. Usually, sufficiently content with just making art and hanging out with their loved ones. The only time he has gotten into fights is when someone else drags him into it which means he can kind of be a pushover unless prompted to act sometimes. However, he is very good at strategizing and when involved in conflicts will usually take on a more supportive role.
He is very emotive when trying to get across what he is saying even while using sign language. Despite this, he is well-known for being a very peaceful, polite, and soft-spoken god. The only time he has gotten into fights is when someone prompts him to do so.
