Monadism

All gears turn as one. All minds must do the same.
— Makarn-Duhra, Priest of the Monad

Monadism is a growing belief system among Awakened Dwarves, centered on the reverence of the Monad—a singular, perfect construct believed to underpin all reality. According to its adherents, the Monad is the Machinery of the World, not merely a metaphor for divine Law, but its literal, self-generating source.

The Monad is described as self-contained, eternal, and indivisible. To Monadists, all things—flesh, stone, motion, memory—are parts of this totality. Life has meaning only insofar as it aligns with the Monad’s structure. Disorder is not evil—it is malfunction.

Key Beliefs

  • The Monad is the source of all Law, but not a god. It is the World as Machine, and perfection is achieved by becoming aligned with its function.
  • Dwarves are seen as its first-born implements, the original stewards of cosmic structure.
  • Unity among Awakened dwarves is essential—they are, in Monadist teaching, fragments of a greater cognitive tool the Monad is trying to rebuild.
  • Awakening is not a burden, but an evolution, a necessary step in righting the corruption of the world, that is seeping through in such places as the Cosmic Wound and the Abyss.
  • The Machinery of the World was not constructed by any superior entity such as the Architect, rather it has always been and always will be.

Church Position

The Church of Holy Law remains cautious. Monadism echoes many core truths of the Architect's Law: order, structure, perfection of form. But where the Church exalts divine will, Monadists speak of divine inevitability, which veers dangerously close to fatalism and determinism. The Iron Precept quietly monitors known Monadist assemblies, though no official condemnation has been issued—yet.

Common Beliefs

  • Monadist dwarves often wear sigil-chains of interlocking hexagons, representing unity of mind and form.
  • Some forge-guilds now incorporate Monadist rites into their work, treating toolcraft as sacred geometry.
  • Outsiders whisper that deep initiates believe in severing individuality to achieve union with the Monad.
