Fortuitous Cotnor
King Fortuitous Pladimus Cotnor
The third son of a minor noble, Fortuitous became king only due to the misfortune of a great many people. Indeed, if it had not been for a severe pine nut allergy, a breakout of cholera, and a family blood fued that ended in a record thirteen duels, young Byorn would never have become the King of Cotnor, called "Fortuitous the Young".
Ever since, Fortuitous has been hell bent on proving he is the best king the Kingdom of Cotnor has seen in generations. He is ambitious, audacious, and clever enough to expand his Kingdom's influence within the Kingdoms. Angling to get his own children into the High King's throne, Fortuitous is cold and calculating when it comes to politics and what he sees as the best way forward for his country.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Fortuitous is in fantastic physical condition, drilling himself in swordplay and armor exercises daily.
Body Features
The King is much physically smaller than many of his subjects, who often top seven feet tall. He is not a small man, but many people call him "effeminate", although his fighting prowess has never been questioned.
Facial Features
Fortuitous is unable to grow a beard, in a land where a boy's beard is his entry into manhood. As a youth, he needed to prove himself in bare knuckle fights with much bigger people often enough that he has developed a reputation as being a competent fighter. He has not won them all, by any means, but his opponents all respected him once the fight was called as over.
Identifying Characteristics
Fortuitous' lack of a beard, especially in the northern reaches of the Kingdom of Cotnor, makes him stand out like a sore thumb; something he hates passionately.
Physical quirks
His lack of a beard, the length of his legs, and the relative slightness of his build made him the subject of much cruelty as a child.
Apparel & Accessories
Wearing a thick bearskin mantle, Fortuitous also carries the Glaive of the Cotnor Guard while he is out and about. He wears the royal signet ring habitually, almost compulsively, subconsciously rubbing it when he is thoughtful, or pondering something.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Gender Identity
Sexuality
Fortuitous believes in taking what he wants, and that belief extends into his bedroom. While he is married, it is mostly for show, as his appetites are far more animalistic than his wife would allow, and it would not do to have the Queen showing up to events with fresh bite marks and bruises.
He instead has a cadre of women who are pampered, perfumed, and ready at his whim. Many of them do not know what they are in for, and most of them silently slip away afterwards, never to be seen or heard from again. This, for the most part, is fine with the king, as after Fortuitous is done with her he has no more need for the woman.
Education
The King was afforded the best in educational services, but only took advantage of the aspects with which he was interested. Global political intrigue and subterfuge fit his style more than maths and reading, although he was very good at history.
Fortuitous feels that the Unified Kingdoms has treated his country and his people like second class citizens, and wishes to secede from the Kingdoms. The fact is that they get too much in assistance from the Kingdoms to ever really leave the union, which grinds on Fortuitous' nerves like a screaming child.
Accomplishments & Achievements
King Fortuitous has actually done quite a lot for his kingdom, though many of his subjects do not even know about his political machinations. He has manuevered, bribed, bullied, and finagled his country into a position of power within the High King's Seat, and within the Kingdoms; a position the country has not been in since the early fifty-four-hundreds.
Failures & Embarrassments
The King's gtreatest regret and most embarrassing trait is that he cannot grow a proper beard. It comes in all splotchy, and he forced to shave his entire face or risk looking like he has mange.
Mental Trauma
The physical, emotional and mental abuse present in Byorn's youth were, for the most part, subtle and insidious cruelties. Although he was beaten at times, his addict father mostly played head games, or would humiliate young Byorn in front of the entire court.
The lad's father died early due to his addiction to the effects of dharak, and he finished his tutelage in Craysilt, with the Greys.
The Greys were very nice to young Byorn, but they never really got along with the boy. Mostly because Byorn was jealous...why should they get to have a happy family, and all this prosperity? He deserved it just as much as they did, surely. More, so, after everything that he had been through! He stayed for the requisite two years, until he reached the age of maturityu at eighteen, then left for his homeland to take up the mantle his father had abandoned long ago, to represent his people to the King in the city. He was a noble! He had rights, wealth, and quite a bit of freedom to act as he wished, but it also entailed a certain responsibility. He would go on to take that responsibility very seriously indeed.
Intellectual Characteristics
Fortuitous is of above average intelligence...some would say he is very clever. Most people who know him would say that the man has a talent for recognizing things that would be of value to himself, and figuring out ways of making them his.
Morality & Philosophy
King Fortuitous' philosophy is that morality is a noble thing for the lower classes to display, and a wonderful thing to aspire to. But, the people come first, always. Before even the concept of "morality" comes into play.
Or, so he tells himself in the dark of the deepest nights.
Taboos
Inane niceties, and "niceness for the sake of niceness", is absolutely vile to Fortuitous, who views it as dishonest and misleading.
Relationships
History
Adelphia was chosen by Fortuitous while they were still quite young. She was raised as his queen, even before their marriage.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
Adelphia has grown to love Fortuitous, in her own way, and helps him in his political machinations with gusto.

To his credit, Fortuitous is fluent in all four of the dialects used by his nomadic peoples.
