Free City of Teel

The term Teel may also refer to:

The Free City of Teel

Teel (short for The Free City of Teel, also known as The Free City) is the capital of the peninsula of the same name and the main settlement by the Settlers and their descendants. It is the biggest settlement in Teel, with more than 600 citizens. The borders of the city are continuously increasing, as more and more Arrivals choose to live in the urban environment. The current growth of wealth allows the modernists in the capital a gracious living.

1. Places of Interest

  1.1 The Library of Teel
The Library of Teel is administered by Mandres and contains hundreds of tales and stories from the two predominant cultures in Teel. It is part of The Block, one of the largest buildings in the capital, which hosts the library and the desk of the The Harkom Herald.     1.2 The Townhall
Every referendum that is put up by a citizen is processed in the Townhall. The building is administered by lawkeeper Stelav, though the mayor (currently Alfan Bernardi) acts as a representative figure and organizes the operating cycles for referendums and lawsuits. People use the open south side of the building as a community center, where they catch up on the latest referendums, discuss politics and ballot their votes.     1.3 Luzer's Green Lung
Luzer's Green Lung is a greenhouse in the center of the Free City. It is based on the ruins of the former Tannebrew Building, where citizens had the opportunity to print and distribute free content of their choice. The printery burnt down in Wave 2/91 AS and stood abandoned for six years. The Harkom Herald writes that one single girl from Teel (Luzer Milla) started to rebuild the place as a greenhouse, despite the fact that the property was meant to become a foundry for metal resources. Today, the place is named after Luzer, who is still in charge of the botanical research department.     1.4 Markets
Several medium-sized markets are distributed over the old town. Every market offers distinctive specialties, though most of the markets have a trade prohibition for meat and fish, except the Juru market in the eastern quarter of the city.

2. Citizens

The Free City is the center of the remaining Harkom culture of the Settlers and a meeting space for modernists who believe in economical progress and technology. However, that does not mean that only mortals are welcome: People from all ethnic groups in Teel gather in the capital to build a new urban civilization that is based on wealth and freedom. Mortals, immortals and mortalized Jurus live together as neighbors, friends and family.

3. Politics

Teel is not united by a common government, nevertheless the Free City of Teel serves as the political center of the country since its foundation in the year 12 AS. The mayor of the city has no political power at all, in spite of the fact that they oversee the civil referendums which come up from time to time. Every citizen is allowed to initiate a referendum on a topic of their choice, but there is no obligation for citizens to participate in every referendum that comes up.   The Referendum Procedure
  1. A referendum is registered by the central administration.
  2. On the next day of the Wave, the administration posts the referendum with other polls from the last seven days at the southern wall of the town hall.
  3. People have seven days to answer the poll, supervised by the rigorous eyes of lawkeeper Stelav, who has proven to be absolutely incorruptible.
  4. The decisions that were made are proclaimed by Alfan Bernardi at the Shenbuu Festival on the following day of the Wave. People can also read up about the newest polls in the The Harkom Herald newspaper.
