Black Teeth of Gendal

The Black Teeth of Gendal

The Black Teeth of Gendal mountain range lies in the South of Teel and seperates the Eery Plains from the mainland. When the seasonal Wave comes, the cliffs of the Gendal mountains function as a natural sea wall, shielding the Western Beach from the massive flow.

1. Geography

The volcanic rocks in the area have a strange upright shape and seem to be stacked over one another in some areas. In contrast to the high-lying East, where the Cauldron volcano marks the highest point, the western area of the mountains reach far into the Ago Sea, with the tips of the volcanic rock formations forming a black archipelago with small, rocky islands.

2. Geological Development

From time to time, the Cauldron erupts solidified rocks which mostly come down in the West of the fiery abysm. It is believed that the cold eruptions slowly formed the strange rock formations of the Black Teeth of Gendal over aeons.     The Dark Waves of Gendal

Roughly 850 years before the Stranding took place, the Cauldron erupted and the cone collapsed into a caldera plateau. The ashes of the event settled down on the ground and turned the whole region black, as well as the Black March woods in the northwest of the volcano.

3. Nature

The region is more or less a wasteland with a dry and rocky ground and minimum temperatures of 35 degrees (Celsius). Hot springs and mudpots scatter on the ground in the higher regions in the East. Only the Undying are able to climb the caldera of the Cauldron without harm, where the temperature rises above 50 degrees. Consequentially, the number of animals and plants in the Cauldron area is limited to just a few.     Flora
  • Whistle Thistle
  • Flakadock
Fauna
  • Ritch
  • Marv
  • Gendal Dragon

4. Architecture

There are no villages or settlements in the area, except the Drago Dungeon. The dungeon was buried into the black ash and lies mainly underground. There are rumors that the Juru man Eafon built the dungeon by himself over the course of hundreds of years.

5. Population

The Cauldron area is sparsely populated by just a hand full of Undying who prefer to be left alone. Citizen Nats from the Free City of Teel was the first mortal to develop a market in the region near the Cauldron Rift location.

6. Myths

6.1 Gendal

The mountain range is named after the giant sea monster Gendal, which is a plague in many of the old Juru stories. It says that the dragon-like monstrosity emerged from the pyroclastic hell inside the volcano when it erupted around 850 years ago, and then it disappeared into the Ago Sea to feed and to grow. Some superstitious people still fear his return – they say that Gendal tried to swallow the whole peninsula several times in the past and some day he will return, big enough to accomplish his feast. Since the black rock formations in the water undeniably evoke the association of huge teeth drawn into the land, the myth of Gendal is most widely believed to be essentially true.

6.2 The Secret Depths of Feu

Some of the Undying still remember that the inside of the Cauldron was once inhabited by at least two Juru houses. Although some people claim to belong to the ancient pyrophilic groups who fled when the Dark Waves loomed, many myths say that there are still some Juru living inside the volcano in the marooned town named Feu.
