The Stranding

The Stranding describes the rescue of the 134 original Settlers in Wave 1 of the new calendar. The shipwreck happened 244 days after the Sun fleet departed from the dry land Harkom without a certain point of destination. 41 caravels with 619 people from Harkom went lost without trace when the Indi Hit Wave swept them along. The Sun was the only remaining vehicle that was found after the Stranding happened.

1. The Shipwreck

  The Rescue
When the Juru fishers from Alkor watched the first Indi Wave of the new calendar come, they knew that something was wrong. The wind brought something entirely new to the peninsula, something they knew only from the animals and plants: Death announced itself with a scent that made the birds flee. On the following morning, Fadimer was the first one to discover the last remaining mast of the Sun.   The hot and humid Vermillion Clouds were not able to cover the devastating tragedies that took place on that day. Between broken ships, stranded whales and the sad remains of a dying world, the Juru troopers found the young bothers Mandres and Thos at first, who (as many others) refused to leave the inhospitable place without their loved ones. Those who could not be persuaded to leave the area were destined to die of heat on the following morning, just as those who could not be found before sunrise.     The Journey
The turbulent sea travel of the Sun fleet took 244 days and many lives. 1310 people departed from Harkom, of which only 134 people survived. Most of the survivors traveled with the Sun, whose fleet was already reduced to 41 out of 66 caravels when the Indi Hit Wave struck the battered flotilla.

2. Time Reckoning

The Stranding event marks the end of the old circular Juru calendar and the beginning of the modern linear time reckoning. AS stands for "after Stranding" – consequentially, the current year 118 AS means that the Stranding happened 118 years ago.
