The existence of Shapers has drastically influenced the development of numerous technologies, with weaponry being a major focal point as war mages quickly rendered blunt force and pointy sticks obsolete. With the need to quickly attack at a range with greater force than bows could afford, weapons using explosive force came to the fore. Starting with crude matchlock pipe muskets, the premise of launching a shard of metal with a contained blast was refined over years of experimenting to the gas operated automatic capable weapons of today. While truly automatic weapons are very rare and expensive due to the work needed to make them, revolver and other single-shot designs are more widespread. Gunsmiths are highly valued for their ability to make and maintain these weapons due to the difficulty of the work and the fact that shapers are largely incapable of manipulating the metals needed to make the durable barrels and chambers of even the simplest firearms. The exception to this are Maiguns, though their use is limited due to the limitations of their range.
Ammunition is another focal point of development, as Maiga enhanced propellant and non-metallic bullet cores have been proving various degrees more successful than conventional munitions. The volatile nature of the enhanced ammunition has kept development slow, however, and concerns about the ease of setting off rounds unintentionally have kept them out of mainline service.
