Shaper

A Shaper is a being capable of manipulating and sensing the flow of Maiga to a major degree, typically referring to humans but also applying to other animal life and even constructs.
The gap between a Shaper's control over Maiga and a regular being's (in this case, a person) is vast. While an ordinary person could channel enough Maiga to light a candle with great effort and concentration, the same feat would be like breathing to even the least accomplished Shaper. Charging is another common area where Shapers greatly outclass those without their gift, though they rarely spend the time doing so as their abilities will always be required elsewhere. They are also more capable of seeing Maiga in the world, typically as an electric blue aura residing within and flowing between everything around them. While this can be seen by all, non-Shapers can only see large concentrations of it in its natural state, and even then only faintly. Some Shapers have had to learn to tune out the glow of energy as their eyes are too sensitive to it and their sight becomes overloaded with the colour.
Among Tarsis' human population, approximately 1.4% of them can claim to be Shapers. Of these, around three quarters of them have power around the lower limit of Shapers, relegating them mostly to civic duties and trades. The other quarter make up the gamut of higher tier Shapers, ranging from masters of the previous categories to war mages to master scholars. All are valued by their countries and compatriots, and some even attain celebrity status.
One major area that is outside the realm of a Shaper's ability is metallurgy. It has been noted that refined metals are very hard to manipulate using Maiga, so much so that it has been employed as an anti-Shaper material. Even malleable metals like copper and gold resist the Shapers' gift, a fact that smiths the world over are thankful for.
