Royal Ghendran Mining Corporation

Founded by royal charter over a millennia ago, the Royal Ghendran Mining Company was created as a revenue generator for Kingdom of Galencia. King Raliph Markudar VI, indebted to the Underground Kingdom of the Children of Kharl for both Khadric crafted tools and mead, found that his exports of grain could not hope to cover his costs. As such, he provided seed money to a number of entrepreneurial merchants and craftsmen for the company. When he learned that they planned to take on even more debt from the Khadra, to hiring them a mining consultants, he almost withdrew his funding. Fortunately, his advisors and love of Khadric mead brought him to his senses and the first mine was dug on in the mountains near Lake Ghendra. The mines there remain productive – though exceptionally far reaching – today and the town remains the headquarters of the organization.

The company functions today as a quasi-independent venture from the crown. While nominally the largest shareholder, the King does little more today than collect profits. His backing, however, allows the Company to take on loans for exploratory ventures throughout the Kingdom for new mines. Many of these have born fruit, and mine entrances dot the mountains surrounding Lake Galen, though none have remained perpetually productive as the one in Ghendra.

The oversight of the King’s accountants means that, as a whole, the Company runs in accordance with the Kingdom’s regulations, tax codes, and general employment practices. These may not seem like much, but are more than most mining operations offer. In any large organization, though, there is always the opportunity for the unscrupulous to take an advantage by cutting a corner, and the mining company is no exception. Fortunately, the relationship to the King has kept such meddling to a minimum and is a key reason why the Brotherhood of Thieves has not established a strong foothold in Galencia.
