Roen'shai Family
Like many Soulmeliti families, the Roen'shai can trace its lineage back to the original records penned in the Soulmeliti Forests. For much of that time, however, they lived their lives as farmers of both silk and rice in Gastwyme; comfortable but not overly wealthy or ambitious. As the Scroll of Years unwound, however, a number of sons and daughters took service in the army, serving with distinction in the constant battles along border with the Orkish Hills. By the fifth century BC, the family had established a record of service strong enough to be warranted a tradition. Sons and daughters now had the lofty expectations of service. By the first century AC that tradition of service was so strong that a small contingent of Soulemlit in the foothills of the northern forests would often contain as many as a half-dozen Roen'shai patrolling its slopes, earning them the nickname Roen'shai's Ridge.
With a flair for the dramatic, the Roen'shai have always been feared warriors on the battlefield and several have served at the highest levels in the army. Their quiet natures, however, often left the in the shadow of more charismatic leaders, serving a supporting role or leading squads from the front lines. While reluctant to stand in the light of public leadership, thy often form close bonds with the men and women with whom they serve. Many have even formed close relationships with their families and it is not uncommon for orphans of soldiers to be adopted into the Roen'shai family, something that makes other families with old bloodlines cringe.
Many of their number have demonstrated a talent for both the sword and the arcane arts, using their spell craft to help turn the tide of battle against seemingly overwhelming numbers. Several have been rumored to be high ranking members of the secretive Aran'fantarhyme, though none would admit it publicly. Others have proudly joined the Kirsh'shaluush, bearing one of that order's great swords into battle.
The Second Elynthi War proved difficult for the family, as their daughter Ver'sheli was a known lieutenant in the People's Army. Her death at the Battle of the Fallen Moon helped erase some of the dishonor that her involvement in the movement brought down upon the house. Still, many junior Roen'shai officers found their careers slowed as a result of the association.
