A true pioneer of the Hinterlands, the hawk-nosed second son of a Drakkarian nobleman gathered a few hundred bedraggled settlers and struck out on his own in 650 AC to find his fortune. Contrary to the popular belief at the time that the Clay Steppes could not be used for agriculture, he and his followers constructed the sprawling, low-roofed buildings of Pembrooke to house the horses and cattle that they raised.
His fortune grew along with his impact on the Hinterlands when he hired Gunther away from King Haddarack to protect his herds. This defection from Drakkar not only gave the Hinterlands its first military force, it led to the development of War Stags, something that Jarred rode all the way to markets across Azermathia, making him the wealthiest man on the sub-continent at time of his death, still riding in his seventieth winter.
