A'dorno Family
The story of the A'dorno family dates back to the founding of the Soulmeliti as an organized nation. Krebdiah A'dorno, a mere guardsmen to the mighty Styvalhyme Family, saved the life of then Forestspeaker Meltorythe Styvalhyme from an assassins blade. While the rescue cost Krebdiah his life, his family was richly rewarded with land and positions of power within the then fledgling state.
Over the centuries that followed the A'dorno family has steadily grown its wealth and influence within the Soulmeliti Forests. They have retained their position as guard to the royal family, and while not all members of that guard are A'dorno, officers invariably come from the family. Those promising guards that are not within the family are either formally adopted - if low born - or bound by vows of marriage to one cousin or another. The head of the family typically acts both as chief counsellor to the Forestpeaker and captain of the guard.
Like their patrons, the A'dorno have increased their influence through the shrewd use of favors, gifts, and on occasion, embarrassment. Indeed, it is often said - by members of other wealthy families of course - that A'dorno taught the Styvalhyme the how to manipulate honor into power, beginning with Krebdiah's first selfless act. The technique has served them well and they now have land holdings and estates dotted throughout the Forests, including a fine one adjacent to the Styvalhyme Palace.
While many A'dorno have historically served in military capacities, be it martial, arcane, or in many cases both, they have had their share of intellectual and spiritual members of the family. One patriarch from the tumultuous times surrounding the birth of Eldoria combined all such thoughts into deep meditations, known as the Shien'sonya Saga. Others, like Rai’ayl, have contributed to the spiritual well being of the nation.
