Valewyr

In the heartland of Valerick, west of Susma, is the nation of Valewyr. Inhabited primarily by a mix of humans, elves and half elves, this nation stands as the final piece of the Heartland Defense Pact. They are another nation that was reclaimed in the mid 800s. A land of varied geography, rivers cut across her grounds, and she is the clashing point of the Golden Sea, desert and savannah, hills to the north, and forests to the west, which shifts to the south into twisted marshy jungle. A wild land, many different challenges are presented to her inhabitants, but a prosperous land, with plentiful food, water and resources available for her people

Structure

This nation is structured like an odd combination of monarchy and democracy. Every ten years they elect a new ruler, but that ruler must be of noble birth and station, so only the upper class may run. But everyone gets to vote. Policy is delegated and diplomatically worked via a proper working government. Each county elects a national representative, as well as their own small Parliament based on the number of towns of appropriate size (10000). Each town also has its own smaller government responsible for local affairs. The county governments handle regional affairs and most criminal matters. As to the national government, they handle military, security, funding and international relations and trade.

Public Agenda

To guard the skies, to be a beacon of light and good will, and to stand as always against the Black Mists

Assets

Large towns, well made forts, pegasi, a host of resources

History

This nation was the third reclaimed, and was done via the skill and fortitude of the first generation of the Pegasi Core, Valewyr's elite military unit. Mounted masters of crossbow, gun and lance, these winged cavalry were able to protect the ground forces from airborne daemon assault far better than even mages could, and even could take the fight to the enemy in the skies. This fight, unlike many, was over quickly, because of the strategic and tactical brilliance of the first officers of the Valewyr armed forces, and that trend has continued to this day.

Demography and Population

Humans/elves/half elves majority
Others: moderate

Military

This nation has perhaps the largest population, Besides the silvered city of Her Light the Empress, Nightvale. As such, their potential army is rather large, estimated to be able to field forty-five thousand troops or more if required.
Within her ranks are a strange intelligence apparatus, one that doesn't use people, but plants and animals for information. A stray dog sees much but says little....unless a Wyldespeaker is nearby. This strange advantage is perhaps one of the best kept secrets of Valewyr.
The elite military unit is of course the famed Pegasi Core. Daring, deadly, brilliant and tactically genius, they are a no nonsense bunch, whom always find a way to accomplish their objective.

Technological Level

Early-mid Renaissance

Religion

All nine heroes are welcomed here, but again, one stands out. The stories tell us that she was the first to befriend and partner with a Pegasus, and to fight for the good of all by taking to the skies. Vosana Falconhand, the battle queen, the Matron of Justice, and the Queen of the Skies. She fought valiantly so stories tell us, taking the battle to dragonkind in their domain, the skies, with a vengeance. She stood for her home, her land and society as a whole. Her followers believe that we need society, that we need laws and that system. They believe in the good and moral fibre of us all, just that we need those systems for the guidance they offer us in times where morality does not offer a clear answer. Her cathedral in Valewood is a sight to behold, and is a key part of every member of the Pegasi Core's graduation and training.

Foreign Relations

A member of the Heartland Defense Pact: Rohara, Raechin, Susma and Valewyr
This pact is an oath to never raze, raid or otherwise willfully and violently interfere with the agricultural production in the heartland known as 'The Golden Sea'. It is also an oath to protect and defend the land, the people whom work it, and the food supply it allows us all to grow at any and all costs, against any and all threats. An oath to last in perpetuity

Agriculture & Industry

Valewyr, much like Susma, is an agricultural superpower, given the large chunk of the 'Golden Sea' within her borders. Besides this however, lumber and fishing given the abundance of lakes and rivers, and indeed a small but lively bit of coastline within their nation, are also strong thriving industries.

Trade & Transport

The Tiber and Sumor rivers both cross through Valewyr, though on opposite sides of the country. Her road system is reasonably maintained, and also reasonably patrolled, however, so this is where the majority of trade comes from, overland, and this is also how the majority of people travel. That said, a few goods come and go via the ocean on the southwest coast.

Education

The citizens here are perhaps the most educated, as school is mandatory for all youth of all races for a number of years based on their expected life span. Maths, sciences, lore and culture, technology and all manner of lessons are taught in this school system.

Infrastructure

Road networks here are decently well maintained and its towns and settlements are well constructed, a beautiful blend of human and elven architecture form and function. Instead of aqueducts, they've used there inherent ability to sense natural wells of magic has allowed most communities here to tap into leylines of Uisce, drawing pure water direct from the Plane of Water itself. Of course this relationship is a careful balance, maintained by community elders.

Though legal matters are tried and dealt with, mostly on the county level, and indeed each county can write their own laws to a point, it is the national government that writes most of the legal code and rules.
Judicial Body
Again, the military does double duty here. This is simply efficient since they live there anyway, why not give them a full time wage protecting the people, enforcing the law and patrolling the roads.
