Tolvar Baruntacht

The southern most estate and a border estate with Raechin and Depenwood, this land is focused heavily along the Tiber and its tributary rivers. It is a highly militarized and fortified land, as one might expect, for though their neighbors are allies, it only makes sense. With the Glass-Spear Peaks to the north, the wild lands of the Salt Shelf to the east, it makes sense to protect the Tiber so heavily both for the good of Suranth and her allies and neighbors. The region is also known to be home to many skilled smithies. Gun smiths, Chymechanics, Knife-Makers, Sword-smiths, weaponsmiths, armorsmiths and more. This stretch of the Tiber is often known as Suranth's Armory. It is here much of the standard armor, weapons and tools to equip the various personal of the Suranthi armed forces are produced, particularly the stuff of above 'munitions' quality, that is the stuff not standard issue to basic enlisted men and women, but stuff made on commission for normal enlisted, or standard issue gear for officers. This is also the location where the Smith Guild came to exist. Indeed, in Suranth, Toshae is where the movement of unionization began with the smithies in the region nearly two and half centuries ago. The movement was an explosive success, especially once the rail lines got up and running, at that point over less than two decades, the various unions and guilds that have managed to exert themselves into existence. Now over fifty percent of all Suranthi workers (that is non nobility, non military, and non criminal) are unionized or part of a guild, and that number is pushing to grow. Trades were first, followed swiftly by railyard workers, dock workers, and even those working Geata-Iarainn's Skyport. Now it includes bakers, weavers, hunters, fishermen and more. For the most part it is now servants and their ilk, along with lesser work such as street cleaners and the like, whom lack such organization, along with smaller niche professions, though some will likely be absorbed by an adjacent guild at some point.

This legacy is one that the people here are quite loudly proud of, even despite the large military presence here, they are very vocal in this pride. They are loyalists, and despite any labor disputes, it is for the most part unthinkable to any craftsmen to allow a strike to interfere with providing for the military. They are Suranthi patriots first and guild members a close second. The region is under the control of one Fiolag Brizzak Lomivmac Tolvar, a forward thinking and scientifically minded dwarf clan chief, a mind leaned on in matters of policy appropriate to his talents, as he is well known for being quite a bright one, especially in regards to military and national security. The lands here are good for hunting, caribou and moose roam, and a large herd of musk oxen make their home in the eastern lands of the region. Of course a little further east you would be into the Salt Shelf, and here one can find all manner of trouble. Green-Skin Raids are not unheard of. The river lands here are actually rather fertile, better than many other places in the tundra, and along the Tiber one can even find small farms using the short growing season to grow potatoes, a few hardy grains, wild carrots, snow peas, turnips, radishes, onions, along with a variety of berries. The harvests are never robust, but enough to provide a good base to work with and keep food prices quite reasonable in the region.

Geography

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:

Salt Shelf: This region is known for being a bit of a wasteland, thick with salt deposits, and not much else. Very little fresh water, not much in the way of plant or wild life. Mineral deposits however, well it is assumed the rocky shelf could be rich in valuable minerals and ores. No attempt to move into the region has been made by anyone or any group yet, but the salt alone is seen as a resource worth tapping into, for salt is a valuable and well loved spice, and one that comes at a high cost to acquire, but should there come to be a domestic source, it would aid the Suranthi market and economy greatly.

CITIES/TOWNS:

Toshae (9168): This is the central settlement, and the location of the Tolvar estate, and center of power in the region. One will find much industry here, many craftsmen working here. You will also find a busy dock district and food processing district here, as this is the centralized location for all the farmers along the south bank of the Tiber, it is here much of the food is moved about, and they have the largest market here of course, as it is the most populated settlement. The control of a major river crossing along the Tiber is also a large boon, and that influence is established further still with the farming village center that holds the other side of the bridge. The town itself is well fortified of course, though its said the gatehouse and defenses around the bridge itself could use some repair, though they are not totally run down, but they definitely could use some work.

Gurnarof (3710): This large town encompasses many farms along the northern banks of the Tiber, as well as many whom fish the river as well. It is a food production town at its finest, a simple enough place, with not a great amount going on. Though in the last week or so two fishing boats have been assaulted in the evening, on the last run back to town from up river on the Tiber, by river pirates it is assumed, and as such a bounty is out on the brigands in question, though one would wish to talk to the local police chief, or the town's lord mayor, for more details.

Valis (4029): A large crossroads town, the region is another busy farming community, with much of the land to the east and west along storms run for nearly a dozen kilometers are farms. So another busy crossroads farming town, though a good place to hear news from the south, especially close by news from Raechin or Depenwood, as merchants from both those nations come through the town with some regularity. Recently some farms have been having an issue with their crops, the plants seemingly....not normal? Not much more has been said and it is apparently isolated to some farms on the edge of the community to the west.

Foljeim's Garrison (3496): This is the largest garrison in the region, indeed in the province, the community around it a proper military town, the people here choosing to live here for the steady customers, and the protection of the military force stationed here. This position is the furthest east in the province, which is likely why it made sense, facing the dangers of the Green-Skin menaces that oft strike out from the Salt Shelf. It is a defensible position, the highest point in the region, overlooking the town by the river bend, which controls the other river crossing over the Tiber. The town itself is fortified and connected via a fortified passage up to the hill, which is walled in two layers, one with large enough space for the townsfolk to take some semblance of shelter if it were to prove necessary, the second at the top, the actual full garrison. A force of eight hundred mans the garrison, their families living within the town of course.
