Vathirond

When the Zehir Infliction struck Taridad, about 2/3 of the world's population died from the malady. This left the world in crumbles and many civilizations had to start anew. On Noyatu in the Haruuc Flatlands, a small community of humans and halflings gathered and created a farming settlement. This was the humble origin of Vathirond. As time passed and the Wynarn Empire became more established, the empire expanded eastward. Eventually, Vathirond joined the empire and became one of its main sources of foodstuffs. Emperor Abelard ir'Wynarn, in an effort to make Vathirond a more established town, moved all military training to the town and following the revolution, Breland has continued this tradition.   Following the revolution and the death of the imperial family, Vathirond was the birthplace of the War of the Five Nations. The Knights Arcane made a precision strike at the Bannerplains Plantation, succeeding at temporarily hindering the Breland food supply. The first blood of the war was spilled in Vathirond, and for the rest of the war, Vathirond was bombarded to disrupt Brelish food supplies and military training. Today, the town has a great hatred toward Aundair, the Talenta Plains, and Droaam for the horrors the town witnessed and has an extreme patriotism for Breland and King Boranel Volger.

In Service of the King

Similar to Argonth, Vathirond has a political leader and a head of the military in the city. Sir Olivier Bryn is a distinguished knight placed in charge of Vathirond following the War of the Five Nations for his valiant efforts. He rules directly over the city and works closely with Colonel Brody Cole and Major Ruzza Edikai. Sir Bryn has a council of advisors who inform him on various aspects including public interest and economics. The population is content with Sir Olivier but hopes he soon takes a more direct approach toward the growing Everglacier problem. The only reason he isn't replaced with someone else is that the town approves of his forums. Sir Olivier Bryn holds public forums every three months where citizens can come and discuss with him and the council about various topics. The council of advisors that Sir Bryn holds close receives mixed feelings from most residents of Vathirond, especially Advisor d'Jorasco. They don't love the extreme power the Great Houses of Noyatu hold over a variety of societal institutions.

Faithful to the Gods, Faithful to Breland

Given Vathriond's size and influence, all the Prime Deities have a presence in the town. Iroas is highly popular among the cadets in training, as he is with many in the military. Bahamut and Etharis are represented in the city center and by law enforcement. They are also followed by many of the higher-ranking officers in the British military. Heliod has a following in the farmers and House Jorasco Agents in the city. There is also a small sect of silver and white dragonborn in the city who strictly give faith to Phenax.   There isn't much strife between groups, other than the community of Phenax followers and the Heliod-backed farmers. The dragonborn, with an affinity to cold, hope for Everglacier's expansion toward Vathirond, while the farmers wish for it to stop so their livelihood isn't destroyed. The two groups regularly get into arguments and bring up their opposing views during Sir Olivier Bryn's public forums.

Citrus, Steel, and Medicine

Vathirond's economy is greatly dependent on the surrounding farmlands in the Haruuc Flatlands. They grow and trade a variety of crops, dealing with people all across Breland. Citrus trees do well in southern Breland so the countryside has plenty of orange groves and lemon and lime orchards. Corn and a few root vegetables thrive in the Haruuc Flatlands so some Vathriond farmers cultivate those crops as well. Southern Breland is ideal for a few breeds of cattle, sheep, and most importantly goats. Vathirond has a large cheese community that loves having access to different types of milk. Wool is manufactured into clothing within the city by a collection of textile businesses.   Self-defense courses are taught alongside military training in Vathirond. Brelish citizens may enter these courses for free but after their training is complete they must commit to five years in the Brelish military. This trade-off is offered throughout the surrounding towns, including Thistleway, Boatwright, Pathstow, and Lyreton. The five-year service commitment is part of how Breland maintains such a large military following the War of the Five Nations.    Outside of Felderwin, Vathirond is home to House Jorasco's largest research facility and hospital, Goldvalley Medical Center. The relatively large group of Jorasco Agents work on creating mundane and magical healing techniques. The medical center also contributes to the health potion production that House Jorasco holds a monopoly on in Noyatu. However, despite the altruistic front of Goldvalley, it is rumored that House Jorasco and House Vadalis manufactured biological weapons here during the War of the Five Nations.

Vathirond Patrols

The Vathirond Watch is responsible for enforcing the laws of the town and keeping the peace. They patrol the streets and some close farms for thieves and other petty criminals. The Watch wears brown leather with red trims. The left arm of the uniform sports the Breland insignia with the kingdom's motto, Saluta regi. Ave ad Solem, surrounding it. Most criminals are punished with labor, working on government-owned farms like Bannerplains Plantation. More serious crimes come with fines and prison time.   Two seats of the King's Citadel (the King's Shields and the King's Swords) are trained in Vathirond before they return to Sharn for their first assignment. The rest of Breland's foot soldiers are also trained within the city.

Institutions of Vathirond

The main Brelish military training camps are set up in Vathirond. Within there are three sects: general cadets, the King's Swords, and the King's Shields. Major Ruzza Edikai commands the cadets in training exercises and forming them into the perfect soldier for King Volger. Colonel Brody Cole was placed in charge of molding the Swords and Shields. These two sects have a special regiment of training they do in order for them to carry out the special missions they will encounter. The goal with all soldiers in Breland's military is to ready them for service in case the Treaty of the Five Nations dissolves and the fighting resumes.   Light's Warriors are a group of devout Heliod followers. they are the largest and loudest advocates for finding a solution to stopping the Everglacier expansion. They believe that Vathirond will become the next Icehaven and King Volger will release the town from the kingdom. They receive support from many residents but receive pushback from a group of silver and white dragonborn who pray for Everglacier's expansion.

Southern Brelish Charm

Most outsiders who travel to Vathirond are welcomed, just be sure not to mention any Aundairian, Talentan, or Droa lineage. Vathanites heavily discriminate against those from Brelands closest neighbors because of the horrors the town witnessed and was victim to during the War of the Five Nations. Warforged, while accepted, are treated as second-class citizens, even if they fought for Breland.
