The Boogeymen of the Universe

Worry and taboo surround even discussing the Church of the Chronicler. Rumors and mistrust surround the cult in every circle of society across Tanari, from the wealthiest aristocrat to the lowliest space miner. Stories of massive, utterly arcane looking spaceships descending from the heavens in the night, strange men clad in purple robes with glowing eyes exiting from the mysterious starship and sucking out the brains of anyone who has any hint of Code Walking abilities. As it turns out these rumors are very true. The Church also gets negative rumors for things it is not involved in remotely, something bad happens, a worker goes missing, a starship is destroyed, its always blamed on the Church.

Structure

Seer

The Seer is the founder of the cult, a semi-godlike being with the intelligence of hundreds, if not thousands of Sapient creatures. The Seer is the only one permitted to speak to the The Chronicler and is constantly trying to breach through the Great Watcher's defenses and establish direct contact with the Chronicler. When the Church sends in their teams to suck the brains out of Code Walkers the brains then get injected directly into the Seer's head. The sheer mass of his brain being squeezed into such a tiny area is likely to cause a singularity, as a result an stasis field has been placed around his head to prevent his brain from imploding, visually this stasis field looks like a halo furthering the belief that the Seer is a godlike being.

Psion

The Psions are few in number and all psionically powerful, they use there Psionic power to travel through out the void searching for Code Walkers, when the find someone who can Code Walk, whether the Code Walker knows they can Code Walk or not, regardless of how strong they're abilities are, the Psions organize a team of Harvesters to extract they're brain, on rare occasions Psions personally lead Harvester teams to Code Walkers who are particularly powerful or guarded. Psions are incredibly revered individuals and are second only to the Seer in terms of influence.

Harvester

Harvester's are specialized troops, trained for decades by Psions with he sole purpose of Harvesting Code Walker's brains as quickly and quietly as possible. They arrive in a location with Code Walkers inside cloaked ships of utterly Arcane design, they then wait in they're ships observing for up to a few months for the perfect moment to jump the Code Walker and Harvest they're brain. Then the ship takes off and they go to a different location and repeat the process until they have a cargo hold full of Harvested brains. In order to preserve the brains for when the Seer absorbs them the Harvested brains are stored in special containment units and are fully conscious and thinking.

Speaker

Speakers are responsible to maintain the Church's barely existent Public Relations, and to indoctrinate new members into the Church, Psions, Acolytes, and Harvesters are all brought into he Church by Speakers. Speakers are few and far between within the Church and spend the majority of they're time in non-Church space recruiting new members and maintaining peace with other Factions. They answer directly to the Seer on all Public Relations issues.

Acolyte

Acolytes are the most common type of Church member and they are responsible for everything from maintaining the Hydroponics farms, to performing rituals to the Chronicler, and fighting off attacks by enemies. If you speak to a Church of the Chronicler the chances are that they are an Acolyte.

Culture

The culture of Church involves absolute divinity and preservation of knowledge through the Chronicler, any and all who do not embrace the preservation of information through the Chronicler are seen as insane and dangerous to all knowledge. Worship of the Chronicler as well as the Seer is core in the culture of the Church and heretical beliefs against them are not tolerated.

Public Agenda

They seek knowledge in all its forms, they will do anything to procure that knowledge. Any who have encountered them know that.

Assets

The Church does not use conventional or understandable technology, rather they sue utterly Arcane and impossible to reverse engineer weapons and ships. These were designed by the Seer himself with the combined intellect of thousands of people and aid from the Chronicler. Cloaking ships that can stay cloaked for ever and are impossible to detect in any way, weapons that burn flesh from bone just as well as they blast armor off of starships and vehicles. They're starbases and ships are almost always cloaked and impossible to detect and as a result the Church has never been hunted down and attacked on a large scale.
