Ashe C2 Episode 4 Winged Unicorn

Previously on Liters of Tomorrow


The ranger known as Wes and his mentor Jaron have settled in the town of Ashe on the edge of the Ashen Forest.
The year is SF 3 3011, 12 years after the events of what is known as the Anaxis war. The inter dimensional being known as the Top Hat Man was expelled from reality by the team known as Adventure Team Grimm. This knowledge is only kept by small powerful factions who saw this on that day back in 2998. Most people in positions of power believe the Top Hat Man to be a myth and consider the actions by strange adventuring team an act of terrorism. Creating a scene of chaos and inviting the invading army of the Knights of Aventador into the capital city of Penthos to do battle with the army of Penthos and the adherents of iron. Most of the whereabouts of ATG are unkown. The tabaxi princess is safe within her kingdom and the powerful cleric blizzard Hops has been seen in Tellenor but the rest scattered to the winds or were killed in the fighting.
Here in the small hunting town of Ashe these events are ignored altogether. The new political machinations of Penthaheim are of little concern. There was a treaty drawn up several years ago that seems to be holding. On the edge of the great Ashen Forest this town is a haven for hunters, rogues, and idealists. The people of the Eigerlands who want to stay out of the politics of the realm.  The climate is similar to the Pacific Northwest, plenty of wet weather and cool temperatures.  It sits in between the edge of the forest and a wide powerful river used for transporting goods from one end of the continent to the other.  
 Today in the warm summer months the people of Ashe are enjoying the scant days of sunlight and warmth.  Children play in the streets and in between the houses and outdoor barbecue pits are prepared for night time feasts and celebrations.  Hunters bring in Mossback Elk and large deer for meat and pelts.

Plot points/Scenes

On a warmer than usual day in Archalos, Wes you find yourself breaking a sweat as you walk down the Main Street towards Jaron’s shop. A wooden frame on your back holds dozens of logs that bounce a bit as you lug them down the road. Even though it is still summer preparations need to be made for winter and cord wood needs to be stacked before winter. Give me a constitution check to see how you are doing. As you dump the wood on the pile you hear Jaron talking to a customer in his shop. “Did you hear that a green dragon was sighted? I told you Jaron that a green dragon stalks the forest!” “And I told you Corvo Multar, even if there were don’t go spreading that around town. You’ll get everyone into a panic. The Ashen Forest is full of many dangers some worse than dragons.”
Ann you fly at breakneck speed easily 600 ft over the dense forest below. It’s been hours since the strange rift brought you into this world. The air tastes and smells strange perhaps a little bitter or dry compared to the lush feywild from which you came. Your throat burns with every breath your glossy coat wet with sweat. You dare not look back at the creature pursuing you. A great green dragon with scales that glitter in the later afternoon sun. It taunts you in between gouts of dangerous green ichor that jets from it’s mouth. Give me a dexterity saving throw. On a fail the poisonous green liquid coats the wings of the unicorn and she begins to plummet towards the earth!

Corvo Multar - Dwarven man with Red hair and a big scar down his face. Informant type, often seen at taverns. He is usually in Ashe for the summer months gathering information for some big client and leaves during winter.

RIPLEY: On the southwest side of Ashe sits the practice grounds.  You walk down the street towards the crowd of people that all surround a steel cage that was constructed some time this afternoon.  It is shoddy and clearly makeshift to hold this bizarre competition they have come up with.  The setting sun to the west gives the evening a pink and purple shade.  The air is a bit cooler already. As you approach you are surprised to hear the crowd roar with laughter and approval.  Several bags of coins exchange hands, clearly half the crowd just lost a bet.  As you get closer you see two men remove a human man from the cage, he looks unconscious. A big burly man the size of a pro wrestler enters the cage next.  He grins and laughs and preens for a bit as he moves through the cage.  At first you do not see his opponent, but he and the crowd tend to look down near the ground.  With the flickering torchlight you see a small figure jump up and off of the steel cage rocketing towards the man's head.  Ripley roll to hit!
A small cat like figure strikes the man hard in the jaw and crowd roars in approval!
Issa Storvant bursts through the door to Jaron's shop. The older halfling lady has streaks of grey in her hair and a slight build for a halfling.  Her and her husband run the stables on the edge of town. Out of breath she loudly whispers to both of you "Jaron, come quick we have a problem!  A creature fell from the sky, something we've never seen before we don't know what to do.  If others find out about this, well, you know, the people in the this town.  Between the hunters and the traveler's, we need to keep this secret."

Themes

Next several poachers will try to capture the unicorn. Good time for Premalkin Po and the Vestal Moth to begin poking around. They are looking to get the unicorn before other factions do. Wes and the rest will have to try to get the Unicorn home to the Feywild via a possible rift in Kormirra Gravca’s territory. If the unicorn decides to stay then they will need to obtain Orbalann’s Head Stone so that she may manipulate instruments in our world.
Magic item: Orbalann’s Mage Hand Head Stone - A charm worn on the forehead that allows the user to cast Mage Hand as a Cantrip.   Kormirra Gravca uses forest spirits to try to trick the unicorn into staying in he realm/section of the forest.  The spirits are called Kodama and they use the same stat block as a Dryad.
The other party that has noticed is the Vestal Moth.  A thieves guild led by Premalkin Po that is a splinter group from a larger guild called the Maldrith Moth. He sends a goblin spy to the stables to find the creature.  The goblin is accompanied by a bugbear named Verrix who will attack if they are spotted.  The goblin is named Umba Gritte and both are level three rogues.  At some point Premalkin Po will approach Wes and offer him a deal if he turns in the unicorn.  Po wants the horn to sell to a powerful buyer in Allachi offering a lot of gold. 
From there the team must find Zinja Sheeth a drow woman who works at the brewery.  She has heard of feywild rifts and that there may be one in the Ashen Forest.  Jaron hands them a couple of polymorph potions to aid them and turn the unicorn into a humanoid if need be so that they can move about town.
