The Paédor Elf Clans

'A mighty sound rose from the treeline, and with it, a cascade of fleeing birds. It was a collective cry, growing louder until deafening, then came the deep rumble, the sound of thousands of feet crashing through the undergrowth. Thousands upon thousands of voices screamed their war cry in unison, and the terrified Elves stood in the open ground, waiting. The Paédor clans were coming, and only a miracle could save them now.'

Structure

The Paédor are organized into ten clans, each with their own chief and territories, the leader of the Sorak Kroawne clan is usually seen as the outright leader to outsiders, but the clans generally follow their own chiefs. The ten current Paédor clans are as follows:
Sorak Kroawne
Varak Rivash
Vara Treshok
Krelka Alasz
Myrera'ah
Mashkra Falk'ah
Gorag Cre'ak
Nortra'agh
Preshtoi Kevalagh
Belva'ashk   In times of war between clans, a council of clan leaders convenes, usually in the Sorak Kroawne capital, Kroawne, to decide what action should be taken. In times of war with other races, the council is convened and, if the threat is large enough, 'Kriiv'laak' or 'Unified Wrath' is declared, and the clans unite and choose one of the clan leaders to rule them for the duration of the war. All clans are ruled by a chief, however some also have internal elders who also help govern. The justice system is usually swift and harsh, those who commit crimes are judged by the elders and the clan chief, and a punishment is decided. The Paédor are very much a warrior society, so clans usually value and respect fearsome and brutal warriors over all else, the strongest and most skilled are usually higher in society.

History

The Clans were originally formed on the Paédor home continent, which was destroyed in a mysterious cataclysm that forced the Paédor to migrate across the sea and land in Mirkireth, which was the perfect place for them to build a new home. The different clans all chose territory within Mirkireth, and between 2A. 759 and 2A. 788 all the clan capitals were founded.   In 2A. 784, a war between the Nortra'agh clan and the Juuna clan saw the Juuna capital, Juunval, along with all Juuna territory captured by the Nortra'agh, who destroyed or incorporated the Juuna clan into their own lands.   In 3A. 121, after the Night of Sorrow, the Paédor Elf clans called for the first and only 'Kriivlaak' in Tal'ronds history, and declared war on the High Elven Kingdom of Laédin, thus beginning the infamous Elven War.

Demography and Population

12 major towns and cities and numerous small villages, population not accurately known, but is thought to be between 200,000 and 400,000.

Territories

The Paédor Elf clans hold all of the territory in the region of Mirkireth, and their individual clan territories can be seen below.

Military

The ten clans all have different focuses when it comes to fighting. In modern times, some of the clans, such as the Gorag Cre'ak, the Myrera'ah, the Belva'ashk and the Preshtoi Kevalagh, have more of an emphasis on trading with outsiders, healing magic and the farming of unique plants and herbs. Still, these clans are gifted archers and spearmen. The Sorak Kroawne clan favour the sword, and are also adept at elemental and blood magic. The Mashkra Falk'ah are known to be gifted ambush fighters, and prefer the stealthy approach. The Varak Rivash and Krelk Alasz clans are particularly skilled trackers and tamers of a variety of wild beasts, which they use in battle. The Vara Treshok clan are considered the best archers in the world, even by the other clans, and are taught from the moment they can hold a bow. Finally, the Nortra'agh, are considered the most brutal, not really focusing on a particular weapon (although they are skilled at blood magic), as long as they can get to, and kill their enemy as quickly as possible. They are also known for their berserkers who suicidally charge into enemy ranks without armour, or indeed in the majority of cases, any clothes at all.

Technological Level

The Paédor can cultivate many of the rare and unusual plant species in Mirkireth, the secrets of which are passed down from generation to generation. The Paédor are also the most technologically advanced in terms of tretop architecture, preferring to build most of their towns and cities in the gargantuan trees of the Mirkireth jungle.

Religion

The Paédor descend from the first group to leave Fallanor, the Vara'fal, who found the original Paédor home continent. Because of their descent from a group of the children of Ade'ryn, their main religious focus is on the Cre'ator, and the cycle of life and death.
